Asura are angelic beings. However, they are not deva. They are "evil" angels, celestials of fire and destruction who stood against the Deva and desired power for themselves and yadda yadda yadda, you know the drill. The "Asura" you refer to is actually "Asura Strike" (I...

Think of it like a skill challenge thread. People are so irrational they will defend it even when they probably aren't actually using it or even assessing it. Heck, even bash threads here often have fans turning out in great numbers to defend whatever is being bashed. The only difference is that her...

Breaking the game with Planar Shepherd is easy mode. It's so pointless I don't know why you would do it. You simply turn yourself into an efreeti and burn three wishes on breaking the game. It doesn't really matter what, because you have infinite game-breaking power.

You even explicitly include both characters looting equipment (in one case, dragon's blood, in the other, Narya) and then explicitly declaring they will alloy that equipment with their character slots, more or less making that identical to a chakra system. If you have arbitrary character slots, and ...

Just have a chakra system of some sort where you load up magic in to each slot and depending on who you are you might load up some spells or you might load up a magic item. More spells makes you look like a wizard, more magic items makes you look like a basher, because you are.

I think this is somewhat over-analyzing the model proposed. While the point that only magic-users get to really play ball in the movie is a fair one, we can draw on other sources than just Willow . Maybe alloy it with a little Conan and make it so that fighter-types have Get In The First Punch on th...

The anime Death Note was never shown with the spooky cover title either, except in places like the intro and extro sequences.

But yeah, the merchandise always has it. Does this mean that all the other Death Notes the players will find were made by fanboys?

I'd just like to say, in sorta-defense of Gygax, that he didn't write the thief class in originally, and that it occurred largely due to popular demand. Players beforehand had to rely on their wit Magical Tea Party to defeat traps, but they could in fact do that. Since there was no class with a &quo...

Well, OK. That pretty much places magic and Val Kilmer on even footing, more or less. I will grant you that when you combine the two premises (that action heroes are the ideal, and that magic shall ne'er surpass them) that your game works just fine, and you can generate a fine version of D&D on ...

Agreed, it may be more effective to recontextualize the frequencies in terms that are actually useful to the game. Basically, instead of "how often can you acquire one" you want to know "when can you next acquire one."

Even the whitewashed versions give Gawain the ability to more or less hulk out and probably bash down castles if he wants when the sun is up. And come on, the Ulster Cycle? Cuchulainn's warp frenzy is so explosive that he has to wear a special tunic when he uses it or he will literally burst into pa...

Yeah, I have to concur that this is mostly a phenomenon in "shonen" type shows. See, the shonen shows are aimed at boys, usually 15 year olds who think big explosions and dramatic fights are cool. And to be fair, I'm totally not going to disagree with them. I just wish that shonen series h...

You can if you want include action movie style heroes in a D&D game, and to be honest they're more likely to fit the general mold of "fighter" that people want. However, they're still going to fall short on one point, a problem you will not really be able to escape. You see, those hero...

An exceedingly minor nitpick. The Death Note's grim depiction with the spooky writing on the cover was never actually used in the series. The actual notebooks were unmarked, so that you could never tell them from anything else. If Light Yagami hadn't treated them like fucking national treasures, it ...

Thus my description of it as patent nonsense. It just doesn't make sense. At all.

Also, I must reiterate that in the old days men could put God in a headlock and people were fine with that.

Sooner or later you have to fly around and shit, and no one accepts Robin doing that as long as Robin remains tied to the "Martial Power Source." And yet they accept Goku doing that and far more on the Martial Source. It's puzzling. Goku (and similar characters, like the One Piece ones) u...

A layer and a plane are important differences, though. Does this let you select Hell and tell Asmodeus and the other 8 rulers of Hell that you're now in charge, or just Asmodeus (or, say, Dis, since you think he's a bit too prissy)?

There's also another point, Frank, where you have some skills that cover Mini Games, and others that cover Instant Actions, i.e. things that don't have a minigame, you just roll it and win or lose and then move on. In this case making more skills to cover it, just because the Social Minigame (for in...

A troll thread

What's your favorite version of the eponymous "troll" in gaming (or just fantasy in general). Myself, I will always have a soft spot for the crazy, horned, blue-skinned trolls of Changeling: the Dreaming, especially because that basically gave you the ability to play a Nordic jotnar. I don...

Even if you make rolls, if one person's roll is worth more (especially if it's a lot more!), then it is still bad for the game.
