>>>Who the hell is jeremy crawford

I think he was also involved with the podcasts (i.e. they may have said he was producer/editor or something, but he also sat there and chatted with Mearls, Mazzanoble, etc. while they hotboxed in the recording studio).

The thing that sucks about this whole discussion, is that you're not even arguing over an actual skill system, just a vestigial remnant of one... By my reading, 5e skills serve almost no game function except in a few specific cases (Stealth vs Percep, and DC 15 locks I guess?). So you really only &q...

BECMI was the nostalgia touchstone that was also like this. You couldn't buy gear, there wasn't that much to spend large amounts on other than castles and warships, and you didn't get xp for loot. However, they gave up on that once they added dominion rules, since you got free xp for collecting taxe...

There's some kind of faction thing in Pathfinder Society, so I would guess it's borrowed/reclaimed/whatever from that. Season 4 Faction Goals Each faction has specific goals it hopes to achieve during Season 4. Below is a brief overview of their motivations. Andoran: Establish an embassy in Magnimar...

I agree with the guy's reasoning, but I never got to try that particular fix before our group's fucks ran out and the edition imploded.

they'll immediately start designing science fiction hybrid shit to work around the limitations because that is what people do . NO U? Longer answer: You're wrong in the sense that it's more correct to say that's what "some" people do. Some people think "innovating" in RPGs is gr...

If Earthlings can't use their regular every day technology, they will make new technological items that they can use. And because those items don't currently exist, they will by definition be science fiction items . If you don't want things to be full of weird science fiction equipment, leave the f...

Escape Route is simply a terribly written feat no matter what. If it doesn't apply to yourself, the feat is worthless beyond belief or understanding, since it costs multiple feats on multiple characters PF teamwork feats are pretty terrible for exactly that reason (although I have seen one or two c...

I think you're underestimating the potential for featsplosion in additional materiel, Voss. I know feats are a bigger deal now, and that opens the doors for some interesting mechanics. Things that used to be templates could conceivably be feat chains now; vampirism, etc. Yeah, but consider that the...

If anyone wants more reason to hate roll-over and/or Rolemaster, the TN for a basic pass/fail task ("static maneuver") in that system is 111 rather than 100. Also, the d00 rolls are frequently allowed to explode up or down (so you potentially have to add several two-digit numbers together ...

Do people really do that though? If you're fighting alien monsters in the Infinite Caves of No-Humans-Anywhere, then it's already a stretch to have to place the insanely specific gear you find in 4e wishlists. "You kill it, and the +2 Warforged Shoulderbow you wanted falls out of the corpse&qu...

If magic items are rare, it strains believability that you can get specifically the ones you want. It is expected for protagonists to have rare magical artifacts It might not hurt to point out that when you look at pre-gen characters in older edition adventures, one can't help but notice the amazin...

Not refuting any of the above points, but this is my quick list of why the math in 4e was badong: 1. Monster damage didn't scale up fast enough. The original MM chart had monsters gaining 0.5 damage per level, while PCs were gaining 4-6hp per level. So PCs went from dropping in 2-3 hits at 1st level...

Is there really no such limit? Nope. (It's still X successes before 3 failures as of 2010/Rules Compendium/Essentials. There was an alternative rules set called Obsidian which did pretty much what that other Den thread suggested: tallied up total successes over a fixed number of rounds, rather than...
