Well, to throw my nickel into the ring, why make it so complicated? The way I handle large groups of minions is basically, they take a hit, they're out. Attacks are done separately but all on the same turn, with each type of minion having it's own standardized attack bonus, so I'll roll say...6d20, ...

So, Dice Towers?
Anybody use them? Spotted the concept online, debating it's usefulness, tempted to hack one up out of some foamboard.

The easiest explanation I've found that works for me is 'too small'. Consider all those Kings and whatever, level low teens to mid teens. It's not that there isn't a single level 15 character who could kill him and take his stuff (kingdom) or multiple lower level guys who can work together to do th...

Why not do a small set of feats that make a certain kind of monk -that- much more of that kind of monk? Say you've got a shaven headed fellow who favors styles like Stance of the Diamond Turtle, you could have a feat that enhances styles that boost defensive traits. Or saves. Or hurting people, and ...

For sake of argument, AC would get a boost as well, as well as saves. It -is- a strange idea, but it is in the least an interesting concept that does further the idea of the charismatic hero smiting down the socially awkward badguy. On a somewhat related note, is anybody else reminded of a bit towar...

I've always disliked mapping RL cultures onto fantasy ones and visa versa. It always seemed like a failure of imagination. I mean, it's really easy for me to assign some attributes I find interesting and then draw logical conclusions about a race/culture from there. It doesn't really take a big lea...

It makes a great deal of sense, really. The big evil guy has a goal. More often times than not it's a goal that doesn't involve world domination, or eradication of everything but the undead, or something far reaching. In at least -some- places they've got to have achieved what they want, and saw no ...

Well a quick tackle on some of those, without warranting their own threads in IMOI... TROLLS: Silicate metamorphorical life-forms, trolls are basically sentient lumps of rock filled with valuable minerals. They fit in, but sometimes need to hunch their shoulders in order to do so. Racial Traits: Ma...

because my german grandfather was a stout drunk who once punched a horse in the face so hard it dropped where it stood. ...your grandfather was MONGO!? I'm probably going to regret asking this for many reasons, including having my rights to the internets revoked, but who the hell is Mongo? Also, to...

You've got a fair point, though it's still a little strange. When I think of dwarves, if I -had- to assign them a nationality it'd likely be some sort of german. Then again, I may be biased, because my german grandfather was a stout drunk who once punched a horse in the face so hard it dropped where...

Scottish Dwarves?
*Rumples brow* Why do certain fantasy races tend to pick up certain real world country traits when we pick them up? The best example I can think of off the top of my head is how several fictions seem to make dwarves sound and somewhat act like pseudo-scots.

I like to play what I feel! Though oftentimes I'm the odd one out of the group because I like to fiddle with unusual concepts of race, background and class combinations. The general rule of thumb for me is go by the Rule of Cool, and I sometimes have an unusual sense of cool. Then again so does ever...

To raise another point of Charisma being stupid, why is the skill Bluff tied to it? If Charisma is some nebulous idea of being 'force of personality' or whatever, how does this help telling fibs? I'm seeing no connection between how accepted you are by personality, your strength of personality or wh...

To explain just a bit, I'm going to tell a little story. Then reality kicked me in the ass so hard it nearly knocked my teeth out from the back. Stumbl...

Interesting idea! As a possible other way to handle it, could be a way to implement an edge system for casting...though that'd likely screw the melee classes pretty hard. Another way might be to grant some nice, but minor bonuses for having a good BCB, like better counterspelling, SR penetration, or...

If 3-dimensional movement and option removal make underwater adventures less appealing, then what about a scenario where you are stomping around a partially submerged dungeon in heavy diving suits armed with harpoon guns and torpedoes? If the suits were limited to sinking or floating, plus possibly...

This is a random interjection from someone who's going to likely regret opening their mouth...but, here goes. Weapons of the Gods uses a metagame ability system as it's entire equivalent of XP. It's a wuxia type game, and you didn't level up as much as you say to the Sage [DM, who oddly enough is in...
