The idea behind the gnome effect is simple. Let’s say you’re planning on releasing a hypothetical edition of D&D . You want to determine which races are important to the game, so you conduct a poll and find that only 10% of gamers play gnomes. That might make it seem obvious that you can safely...

but the point I tried to make remains, that Saga actually gets more playable and fun as the levels go higher. I've been having tons of fun with my character in the last levels, although that could also be because the GM is very good and varies encounters up enough to challenge everybody. Please lea...

Also piracy is much harder if everything is stored in the cloud. And they will store everything (character files) on their server, and only allow you to print a pdf with all stuff filled out. Why they didn't do it as a web application in the first place always amazed me. Because they are WotC. They...

Can you customize the current builder and use earlier (aka not yet nerfed) verisons of feats, powers etc. if you have the latest version? No. You can download older version from a torrent though. Obviously that's not legal. They promised that the new builder will allow to make custom modifications ...

Wasn't it the case that you could pay for one month's access to the on-line service and it would permanently update the locally installed version of the Character Builder? Changing it to a subscription-only program would be a definite downgrade, then. ..which is most likely one of the reasons that ...

Re: Okay, 4E is really doomed.

We discussed this before. 4E had very few products out last quarter, presumably because they were tooling up for Essentials, etc. So while it might be bad news for 4E, it's somewhat of a coincidence too (Paizo was in a peak and WotC was in a trough). Indeed. The only new products were dark sun and ...

That's mainly due to the new MM3 stats for monsters - less HP, more damage. It's also in errata'd 4E. Yeah...we play with those revisions in my core 4E game as well...and combat is still notably faster in the Essentials game. When our party was 1st level, we took on a solo in 3 rounds. Yeah, ok, it...

I've played quite a bit of Essentials since Heroes of the Fallen Lands came out...combat definitely moves a lot faster than the core 4E game that I'm in. That's mainly due to the new MM3 stats for monsters - less HP, more damage. It's also in errata'd 4E. There is still the problem of PC's unloadin...

So I ordered the Ravenloft game. Why? It sounds fun and - it's short. If I want to spent 4+ hours, I rather play a real RPG. Ravenloft's duration of 60-90 minutes sounds perfect for a short dungeon crawl and for hooking new people to fantasy games...

I've played a bit of 4e, my biggest complaint is that combat takes so damn long. I think in a 4 hour session we could squeeze out two fights and each fight consisted of using our encounter powers first round then spamming at-wills. Has essentials mitigated this at all? Yes. This was already fixed b...

3.5 - Telekinesis to grapple Ghosts?

In yesterdays game, I wanted to use the telekinesis spell to grapple a wraith. I had read somewhere that it can be used to that effect... but the DM didn't think so, and I didn't find anything in the rule text that would allow this explicitly. So - is it possible to use telekinesis to grapple incorp...

Here are some of the baselines for what I'm looking for: -No strong role protection (as the game is single player) -Steady advancement (as in, no levels) -May include difficult mathematics (as the computer does the calculations) -Large pool of combat and off-combat options (because "I hit it w...

Re: Incoming House Rules

Nobody, monsters included, has more than one attack per round. If you take a full-attack action, you multiply the number of damage dice by the number of attacks you normally have in a full-attack (not the static modifier); for those familiar with Pathfinder, it's much like the Vital Strike feat tre...
