It was wrong for me to say 1/4th the cards, it's more correct to say 1/4th the metagame, as you point out. I agree with you that metadeck abilities that allow you to pick a specific maneuver have no place in WoF but what is wrong with a reroll or a the ability to plan your next round?

Re: Getting a WoF system for D&D down to a manageable size.

Meta-Matrix abilities. Look at Yugioh, 1/4th the cards contain a rider effect that allows you to change your hand. These can be as simple as "Reroll the matrix die," or maybe "Roll your Matrix die again, this will be your result next turn." The other upside to abilities like this...

Taking Action Economy Lessons from MMOs

Full Round -Basic --Attack(s) --Ability -Movement Special(s) Each round you have a Full Round action which is made up of a Basic and a Movement action. Basic actions are made up of Attack and Ability actions. In addition to a Full Round action, players are granted Special actions per round. Any acti...

Is this contradictory of your 'side board' solution to Lightning Redirect from Roleplaying in Avatar? Why is that different?

Then allow a "re-decking" system in the WoF or add in ability to alter the roll. In the Roleplaying In Avatar topic Frank mentioned how Lightning Redirection is a super sweet ability that high leveled characters should have... but it's stupidly situational and only useful in combat with th...

If you're willing to write Magic and Trap Card abilities into the matrix along with meta-abilities it could cut down on the "Different Name Same Power" problem. Meta-abilities being things like "Reroll your Matrix dice" or "Hit the opponent and choose what his next Matrix ro...

It's like... you wonder, why don't we just have a damage roll and roll randomly to see how much damage our attacks deal? Oh wait, we already do. WoF adds a meta-damage roll to see which dice we use to roll the actual damage roll. And this is the case is if you, say, adds WoF to 4e powers. But would...

Disadvantages should be split non-combat and combat like the other abilities. Like you must take one of each type, and at least two must be combat flaws.

That's not an issue with WoF though, that's a product of uninspired and shitty development.

Now that I understand it, that seems like a really neat system.

Most TCGs are a variation of this system then, right? You build a deck but you randomly draw from it. Any other examples of full systems which use the mechanic?

Forgive the possible stupidity, but why is this system desirable? It seems like it's complex and time consuming for the purpose of limiting player choice. What am I missing?

For what it counts, plenty of video game RPG classes work on different resource mechanics. WoW has mana, rage, energy, glyphs and focus. As far as needing a unified power system to multiclass, no you don't. I mean, look at DnD. And then there are unified power system with no classes at all like M&am...

That's true; I bet that, if you do your geometry and calculus just right, you can stuff an entire infinite-on-the-inside space into a finite-on-the-outside space without any discontinuities. I haven't done the math; I'm just thinking of things like the infinite sum of the reciprocals of the powers ...

@Big Picture, thanks for this. It gives me a much better idea of the setting as a whole before going into each individual culture.

How big is the surface for players? Not literally but in the scope of gameplay, is it like Undermountain or is it like the Underdark? Or is it even bigger or smaller?

I appreciate the effort to avoid a humano-centric setting and applaud how you've managed to do so while still allowing any and everyone in the setting to conceivable be a human. As far has Zombiepocolypse goes, was the setting humano-centric before it happened? Are the broken human civilization on t...

Cut out Big Game Hunter or tone it down, make Favored Enemy benefits require a Swift action to maintain, working like Soldier/Totemist/Incarnate.
