Really, if you do Rage Meter the only way you can really make it work without blatant metagaming or DM intrusion is to make it trigger from player damage. Yes, this means that some barbarians will ritualistically cut themselves before entering combat Why's that? Requires 0 Rage, grants 1 rage -Giga...

@Frank and Rage Meter, why not both? Have some maneuvers that require zero Rage with ala Diablo, Charge/Leap, have a single target and multi target rage builder, Devastating Blow/Monstrous Cleave, then have your badass abilities scale with how much Rage is build up. And those build more Rage too.

289 is a lot of fucking class combos. That and some feats can really do a lot.

But 8 is really 64 with Major/Minors and if you frame the class section well that should come across. Even then, bump it up to 10/11 classes and ship like 3.0 did because 90-110 is still miles easier to playtest. And you really don't need that much in a core book.

@Frank, with the major/minor system you could just write two versions of troublesome power, the major and minor version. This would be the pre-nerf to OP combos (ie, minor classes which grant passives), and you could write cool synergies for traps (ie, calling 'the spirits' and 'the elements' may be...

Would it be that bad if you just had two systems? If we use Lago's Major/Minor class system and add rider bonuses to bad class combos? Or is the fear that it would be too scripted?

I agree that sleep clause is silly. Honestly sleep is far less centralizing then Stealth Rocks. And it's really not to hard to counter, as Frank says, just hit Spore pokes in the dick and/or have a Poke to absorb status effects i.e. Facade/Rest/Natural Cure/Healing Bell/Berry.

Anyone who advocates removing types because it 'makes sense' is an idiot because it fucks balance. Just let the Sacred Cow stay alive. Smogon rules are honestly pretty good, have you ever tried battling without them? Shits just not as fun. Only thing I agree with is fuck Stealth Rocks. It's too fuck...

The question is how you'd get high-level utility in there of the same kind the Wizard and Sorcerer have while still having it be coherently elemental fluffed. Aang never cast Teleport, or Dominate, or Dimensional Anchor, or shit like that, which is stuff you need at high levels in order to be relev...

Not letting you forget about this because it's the best class you've made. And to actually add something other then a bump, would you consider making the class 15 levels long with level 10 being an obvious prestige breakpoint? Or to put it another way, make a PrC that doesn't add any more elements? ...

Don't bother scaling the ACP ignore. Just let them ignore all of it at level 3. And to echo tussok, give him something to do with a swift action.

Late levels are lacking pretty hard. Wizards are creating planes and Fighters are hit harder with their swords. Give BIG things in those last three levels.

to give Ogre credit, I doubt he was actually referencing Tome material. Knight's challenge SHOULD work the way Tome says but it's hardly the first or the only homebrew fix that does such.

Catharz do you mean to argue that because some things lack realism we should cry havoc and abandon all verisimilitude? If you want magic Shotguns that deal damage in a cone I'm down because they're magic and it works because magic said so. I still have questions about the mechanics when someone uses...

Why not throw away the MMO threat mechanic and use a system that more heavily supports tactical placement? Aggro mechanics don't work well in tabletops because they support LONG battles and those are very hard to keep tactically interesting. Keep in mind that most 3.5e combats are over in a single d...

Holy shit I can't believe you pulled the anti-realism card. Answer me this, why don't swords deal damage in a cone? Or a crossbow? Or a punch?

My only issue with treating Firearms as weapons that attack in cones/lines is that it's not clear if they're attacks. Is it an attack or a standard action? Can you sneak attack with a Shotgun? Does everyone take damage or just one? And there is the problem that Shotguns simply don't fire in a 45 deg...

I agree with Ice9's three routes to firearms but would like to expand on them. You also having 'magic guns' ala Gun Mages where you just refluff Wands or treat them like Spell-Holding Crossbows. Or you can design a class around it as many have. You also have melee guns. These are extremely cool and ...

What the shit is the point? Linear vs Quadratic because if there was a function where level implies power, the Wizard's increases exponentially while the Fighter's increases at an even pace. Or it's Good vs Bad because one is good and one is bad. Or it's Irrelevant vs Awesome. Or Mundane vs Magic. O...
