I just checked the Pathfinder SRD, and it looks like Shadows are the only core undead that didn't get the now-standard explicit statement that spawn become free-willed after their creator's destruction. Shadow spawn are also the only spawn that don't get a bunch of penalities for being spawn. They a...

The hider makes an Intuition + Stealth test to determine how long the base time to find them would be, and that time is divided by the hits on the Seeker’s Perception test to determine how long it would actually take them to find the hiding character. Emphasis mine. Whatever method is used to gener...

I just took a look at the default After Sundown hiding rules myself. The base time to find someone cannot be calculated. It is supposedly based on the Hider's hits on their Intuition + Stealth test and also on the chart of possible hiding locations. True, the rules don't say how the Hider's roll aff...

I baked them by throwing them in the oven at 350 F for ten minutes, then flipping them and cooking for another few minutes. Baking them at 425 F for a shorter time would probably work too. The canned chicken I use is already pre-cooked, so I just cook it at medium heat for two or three minutes while...

I've often seen a similar approach from the other end: genies (or whatever) aren't individually powerful enough to grant wishes, but they create something like an insurance policy that allows individuals to draw on centralized magical "funds." Each genie has to justify all wishes granted t...

Some systems offer open, catch-all disadvantages such as BESM's "Involuntary Transformation" that make taking the same disadvantage twice meaningful. In that case one could get an arbitrarily large number of points by having many copies of a single disadvantage. It's a ticket to DM Veto La...

I lost what little respect I had for Savage Worlds the first time I tripped someone. We looked up the rules and found that standing from prone is a free action you can make as part of defending yourself against a melee attack. Since it's harder to hit prone creatures with ranged attacks, being tripp...

I just played a game against Twitch for the first time. Gave up first blood because I didn't realize how bad trading hits with him can be. That little bit of extra True Damage doesn't sound like much, but it sure adds up if he hits you a few times. I may have to start playing him more.

Anime club finished for the semester on Wednesday. I hadn't actually shown up for several weeks, but I kept up with the full-length series. The last couple episodes of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure rocked my socks off. Fate Zero made me alternate between loving and hating Archer because he's a smug basta...

Does anyone else get sequences of dreams that start the same? I had a few one night about a week ago. I would wake up in bed with my SO, and then other stuff would happen. One of the examples quoted from the book in a previous thread involved the pyschic cultists showing up and the player being told he would die if he tried fighting. If that isn't overwhelming opposition, I don't know what is. The mission was to kill the leader of the cultists, so conjuring overwhelmi...

It turns out this was an April fool's joke. I'm both disappointed and relieved because it would be an interesting direction to take things, but I'm happy to see the main plot advancing again.

I would consider anything that has a clearly-defined interaction with the rules, requires an action to activate, and isn't just basic movement to be an activated ability. Under this definition, swinging a sword with the intent to strike something is an activated ability, it's just an incredibly comm...

Yeah, Kill la Kill was great. One of theose series that just keeps building on itself. A friend of mine recommended Saint Seiya, so I've started watching that. shadzar, you're confusing status effects and activated abilities. "On fire" is a status effect - you're either on fire or not, and specific things happen (damage every turn) while you are on fire. "Cast fireball " is an activated ability - a wizard with fireball memorized may cho...

I just tried new Xerath for the first time, and he was a lot of fun. I didn't really have enough damage to back up my stun and slow, but poking with Arcanopulse was good and securing kills from such a huge range was very satisfying. I'm just not entirely certain what to build on him. Liandry's seems...
