Is Legends and Labyrinths design aim to fix 3rd edition balance issues?

I think Justin aimed to create a simplified and easier to play version not a new Tome version.

Well strength should still be the most usefull stat simply by virtue of it being a melee class. For example tome barbarian and tome fighter are strength focused, even if they don't have many abilities based off strength. I am leaning on basing the maneuvers on strength/dexterity and the stances on b...

Thanks, thats about what I was looking for Josh. It will take some time but I think I will develop my own version. It is important to note though that the soldier gets a lot of love to make up for the fact that it has medium bab, intelligence as its main stat and is a melee class. The fighter should...

I might post my own version of this put it will take quite some time to come up with sth post-worthy. I suppose low level stances might be able to give you access to feats, for example a stance to fight bigger opponents might give you the giant slayer feat. I don't really like the readied maneuvers ...

Bab has a slightly higher importance in tomes. It also affects edge, AoO and ofcourse combat feats. But yes, since maneuvers use standard action attacks full attacking and consequently bab becomes kinda useless. Maybe a solution would be that some or even all of the maneuvers function only with a fu...

Using the tome soldier mechanics for tome fighter

I really like the tome soldiers stance and maneuver mechanic. How could one adjust it to create a classic fighter? Basically I am asking how could you convert the tome soldier into a full bab strength focused class, that has a less magicky feel and uses stances and manuevers? Any ideas are welcome.

I know I am quoting a 2nd page response in a 13 page thread... Another true story: I was a player in Red Hand of Doom . The plot called for us to XP up on random encounters on the road, but once we figured out that the DM was following a timeline we got a zombie chimera and flew to the next part of ...

Point taken. Regarding Druid/Cleric spells known I am talking about Dungeonomicon, the Maginomicon part, "Druids and Clerics get broken with supplements". Says you choose one spell to know beyond those in the core every level. You can find others, but you don't have access to every druid/c...

Again, what`s the balance point. Wizards are still literally infinity times better than Tome fighters with Tome feats because they can Planar Bind an army to murder the Fighter in his sleep . then raise him as a Dread Warrior and use him + Wizard against any Tome fighters he faces. Yes, it is objec...

How about using Tome classes without tome feats?

I know normal feats suck balls, but it would go a long way into macking tome warrior classes weaker.

Re: Dungeonomicon Monks

Looking through tome classes for an upcoming 3.5 D&D group, and came across the Monk. The class looks interesting, but unlike with most classes, I can't really figure out what direction to try taking it. Anyone willing to share some build/fighting style combinations they've used? Kind of lookin...

So you add every single problem above, but you also make all items generic.

You misunderstood again, I am not saying this should apply to all items.

Also, no you don't, in all those problems you mentioned, you assumed I said something I didn't.

You misunderstood, +1/3rd level to three things and no major ability (and +1/3rd level to 2 things and no moderate ability).

I just thought it would be cool (and some times fitting) and I certainly had no belt of magnificence in mind. What if an item with 2 basic bonuses counted as a moderate item and perhaps with 3 bonuses as a major item? The strength enchancing magic sword for example would be a moderate item (bonus to...

I also wanted to ask, what's your take about combining in the same item two basic bonuses? Say a magic sword that also increases strength.

Oh and good job on the staffs rewrite, seems it would work well.

vlad: Any martial prestige in the 3.5 books are absolute shit. I mean you can twink them to extremes but the results you get by just doing it as a cleric/druid/wizard are just as potent if not better. I didn't suggest using prestige classes from the 3.5 books, I said that maybe creating prestige cl...

Maybe heavy prereqs prestige classes that practically need 10 levels of fighter/ranger/barbarian and give useful high level abilities would make it work. This actually is in agreement with tomes smaller classes arguement that "for some classes the concept collapses after 10 level (knight)".

See, making up "spur of the moment special attacks" is exactly what I mean by "winging the rules". Another example is bad guys who last exactly long enough to cause a problem for the PCs, at which point they suddenly keel over. I don't care for that sort of thing. To each his ow...

I 'll try one of the two progressions and see what works for me.

So how are the dc's to these items supposed to work. 10+1/2 your character level+charisma mod?

Neat. This clarified a lot of things.

The save DC for your spells is 10 + 1/2 Character Level + Primary Ability Modifier, just like everyone else in the game.

Whats the thinking behind that? It does make things simpler, but it kinda buffs the casters (not that that's a necessary bad thing).

Ok so a vorpal sword would theoretically cost around 25k, while a basic magical sword 1k. The rest of the DMG items are priced more or less the same. So a gem of brightness will still cost 13k and will be purchasable by normal gold. Will the save DC's for its effects be based on your charisma and le...
