Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered
I disagree, in a skirmish wargame one of the design goals is likely to be that two people show up to the table with armies they picked out on their own without knowing what the opponent would bring, and then they have a tactical battle that's balanced enough that it's not boringly trivial. "Oh ...

Re: Trying to do Divination Better
Actually, divination powers that are vague and narrativey and heavily interpreted by the DM gives me an idea. Why not have a character building resource dedicated to letting the DM give you problems? Like you could pick up "lost heir of the kingdom" to be hunted by assassins and have to hi...

Re: Moving pegs on a player mat like Scythe / Engine building for tabletop RPG?
Having a light flavoring system like Kaelik's elemental siphon is pretty good for a TTRPG I think. It's nice to have some unique class mechanics that give you a little bit of extra stuff to think about beyond what the other players can see, especially in order to make your actions a little mysteriou...

So comprehend languages has 5 augments, but you only mention 1 for magic missile... Does magic missile have more you didn't mention? What's the median number of augments per spell?

Re: [Review] Draw Steel! The playtest packets I guess
Also boons and banes is a better alliteration and you'd think a writer would appreciate that. Boons and banes sounds funnier, but alas, making two opposites that are used in the same context sound similar would lead to a lot of disastrous mixups in play. They aptly avoid alliteration at an area and...

Even if chance of winning beats the given odds, if the chance of winning is vanishingly small and you can only make that bet ONCE EVER its a pretty fucking bad bet. Hey, if you can find enough different favorable bets that can only be done once ever you might make a profit from the maybe one of the...

I think you can add racism to this aura-based system without too much trouble. Having a character who is racist doesn't require tracking that character's relationships with specific other characters or anything, just a modifier that says they don't trust elves even when the elf has a trustworthy aur...

Re: [Domain TTRPG] Trust, Resource, Faith
Fairly tale trust mechanics could be kinda neat, we are usually talking about fantasy games after all. And as an extra upside, it doesn't aim to model realistic social interactions so it's not doomed to exclusively produce results that are worse than mtp. However, with a social mechanics system then...

Given that bots like chatgpt are trained on every word ever written and are still blithering idiots, I think there's a couple orders of magnitude in the way. Re: Why are Tome Feats a problem?
Not every character in a Tome party needs to be able to do everything a wizard or cleric can do. The wizard or cleric can do those things, after all. Much more important to feeling like not dead weight is to be able to do some things that the party wizard or cleric can't do. Role protection and what...

Phonelobster is very bad at polite discussion, but I think his question is valid, so I'll attempt to translate: You said: this requires giving everyone multiple options that are not feat/class/species/spell dependent, but instead more like the 3e Disarm and Trip options for combat; He wondered why t...

In this case it's not so much complexity, as it is complexity-erasure. There's a lot of random-ass abilities that interact with the being attacked rules, and pretty much no abilities that interact with the having someone roll a Spellcraft check against you rules, so you miss out on any sort of unusu...

Re: Spell lists vs. the Warlock path
Items that add to skills are generally super cheap, but given that the Dexterity or Constitution score (whichever is higher) doesn't scale to keep up with Spellcraft you'll probably only worry about boosting it at low levels anyway. A touch attack would be fine tbh, is it really necessary for the wa...

This feels like a topic similar to one that's dear to my heart so I might as well pitch in. Once long ago I was really into the idea of making a caster class about speaking words of power that actually have meaning, because that's what the fluff of wizards (and not just D&D ones at that) is all ...

Note that summoning doesn't actually create a new creature when you cast it, it makes specific statements about what happens to a creature when it is summoned. Regular summon spells presuppose the existence of arbitrarily large numbers of the creature you're trying to summon out on some plane somewh...
