Re: Toward a New Version of Polymorph

Well, CR is supposed to represent combat ability against a spread of different characters and monsters[1], so what you lose in raw power, you make up for in versatility. Seriously. Maybe not at CR-3, but at CR, you get versatility *and* level appropriate power -- you can't have both and be balanced....

Re: Races of War

Jesters are actually pretty good. They've got decent random stuff (offensive and defensive), old-bard casting, 3/4 BAB, and decent sneak attack, and *poison use*.[br][br]That starts them out with, as like bards that can do level-appropriate combat (via sneak attack). But where they really own? Spell...

Re: Fixing Metamagic

Is there any reason (flavor excluded) why you prevent someone from casting a spell if they don't have a high enough stat. I mean, surely the spell DCs and bonus spells are (in general) a big enough reason to go for the biggest spellcasting stat you can. Why shaft the dude with a low stat even more?

Re: Toward a New Version of Polymorph

I agree -- long spells are totally boring. It's too bad that they're usually the legacy spells that are way overpowered.[br][br]Replacing yourself with a creature CR-3 of your level should be pretty well balanced anywhichway you slice it. You're not going to outshine anyone in combat (especially not...

Re: Where do low-levelers go to adventure?

It's a dog-eat-dog world out there. Evil is trying just as hard as good[1] is to overwhelm everything, so you can't just send your 15th levelers out to take care of those ogres. You tap the 5th level dudes and throw shinies at them to make the problem go away.[br][br]Plus, the lower level you can de...

Re: Fixing Metamagic

Frankly, abusing metamagic is no fun. At least to me. However, it'd still be nice to have it be used/useful.[br][br]I think that "free" metamagic is a plausible way to make things useful. I do have a comment though -- perhaps the best approach is a mixed one. Something like Quicken/Persist...

Re: Fixing Metamagic

Divine Metamagic: You can expend turning attempts to add, subtract, or change the metamagic feats applied to a spell when you cast it. The final metamagic suite applied to the spell must be a legal combination as if you had prepared it. Removing a metamagic feat requires 1 turning attempt. Adding o...

Re: What if Evocation didn't suck?

Yeah, I don't really care what the effect is -- 3d6 single target with meh side benefit (nd6 to everyone else, party included is a wash, I'm betting) seemed a bit weak. Totally written for the conditional effect.[br][br]Could make a "frozen" or slowed (no save) or whatever.[br][br][br]Also...

Re: pdf 0.3

Currently the new homebrew content is at the end of the F&K pdf (in the homebrew chapter), but I can move it elsewhere easily enough. I'll put it in its own pdf if that's what people want. Can't cross reference things that way, though. Any preferences?[br][br]I could of course, generate a F&...

The genie can get out by planeshifting as soon as the dimensional anchor is lifted. They have planeshift as a supernatural quality.[br][br]At level 5, a potentially typical rogue will have like a 8 ranks, a +4 stat mod, and a DC of 31 for the scroll, and if she fails, she must make a DC 5 Wisdom che...

Wheel of Genie?

So, it's pretty clear that you can enter the Wish economy at level eleven if you, say, have a cleric and a wizard in your party. But what about earlier? The two standard ways (that I'm familiar with) are Candle of Invocation to gate in a genie. Cost:8400 gp[1], success is guaranteed, so long as you ...

Scrolls, Devices, and Stats

So, when casting from scrolls, are the DCs based on your spellcasting stat (assuming you have one), or are they fixed DCs? What about wands/staves/rods, or wondrous items?

Re: Paul/Frank Sorcerer Update?

[br]Any reason to not give it the same feat-set as Wizard and call it a day (or is that too boring)? Sure, Scribe Scroll is of prime importance to a Wizard to increase versatility, but a TS Sorcerer could use it to augment his spells per day, and save his slots for the really uncommon stuff.[br][br]...
