As long as they stopped sorcerers from summoning dragons (of the fixed intelligence variety) and turning them into familliars, I would say it would be an improvement.

Smurf and Knot-cutter are good to me too. Though the problem with knot cutter is that cutting the gordian knot actually worked, but the [DMF] isn't actually able to solve every problem by just swording (or whatever), and the epithet of knot cutter implies it can. Hammer might be better, along the o...

I think I grasp what you are attempting to define. I could very well have missed the point entirely though.

How about something like Knot Cutter or Alexandrian hero. Sword solves riddle!

Gummi Bear. Because bouncing solves everything in Gummi-Land.

edit: Missed the point, sorry.

Current expenses from my wednesday night game. (from memory, I have it written down somewhere). 5gp bridge toll. Actually a bribe so guards would allow my Revenant into the city while armed. 5 gp. Room and storage at inn paid up for next 2 weeks. Paid for food while in city, at rations or made Natur...

The list I was referring to is on p125-129 of the DMG. let's see. Imagine I'm awarding treasure for a 5th level party. By the time they hit 6th they should recieve: Magic items. 1 each of level 6 through 9. And 2000 gold. If three of the players have a level 8 item on their wishlist. 2 of them are s...

In order to keep up with team monster, you need to continually upgrade your weapons/implement, armour and neck slot item. That is at least 3 items you want at +1 before you hit level 5, +2 before level 10 and so on. That does not even count items to fill other slots. By paragon tier, your ring slots...

OK...so you like specific-damage criticals just because they impair the PCs? You could do that just with a wound penalty system based off total hit points or equivalent, rather than needing specific injuries. For example, Shadowrun and White Wolf both have an increasing penalty when you're down Hea...

I have to say my gaming experience has included many systems that included some form of critical success or failure. I had almost forgotten about glitches in SR and botches in Storyteller. I have to wonder how the use of critical hits may have effected game design. I may be off the mark here, but ta...

An unrelated point, but Darwin vs. Wallace is a very interesting subject of discussion. Wallace was a proponent of systems theory was he not?

Critical Hits (any system)

I am interested in hearing peoples opinions on the use of critical hits in a game. Are they Important to TTRPGs? Are they a rewarding play experience? Should automatic success or failure be an attribute determined by a die roll? Personally, I was a fan of the 2e Players Options tables. I liked the d...

I'm not sure if personal experience is relevant, but I have not irrelevancy stop me before. In 4e games I have run, breaking down doors was a pretty common occurance, especially with spellcasting bad guys making use of rituals like Arcane Lock. Sometimes this was time sensitive. Now the Barbarian in...

regarding rituals, I have only seen them mentioned a few times. NPC class templates are assumed to have access to rituals where damatically appropriate (pretty much exact text). Vampires get a ritual to make other vampires. Dragons get ritual access according to their age category (Draconomicon). I ...

Also, Darwinism needs to be a victim of his own name. He is clearly unfit for the gene pool, and certainly not the gaming community.

Why can't you, though? What is stopping you from throwing an enemy at the party who is simply an NPC made with PC rules? Because there is absolutely nothing saying, "Thou shalt not use PC options for NPCs." Instead it's assumed to be a generally bad idea because player damage outpaces pla...

Fair enough. I did not even think about nature of the question. My experience with 4e NPC templates has been that they are lackluster in comparison to other elite monsters. More options to keep track of, but not more powerful. I have a question about encounter balance, but I am not sure how to prhas...

A simple question. What is the big deal about monsters/enemies not having the same access to the same customisation tools as players? I'll provide an example why this is an issue for me. In previous editions I had to kit some monsters out, customise feats, allies etc., in order to make them competit...
