I would look into a high tax strategy, at least for the early game. Your starting army has a minor patrol bonus, but enought to tax at 150% for the 1st turn with no risk of accumulating unrest. Your standard forts and mountain forts are expensive, but have a high administration value. With a small s...

I would focus on scales, personally. You can use Thaumaturgy to branch out into Death and Blood, picking up all of those site searching spells along the way to your national summons. Considering the paths on your recruitable mages, you can start manual site searching during your expansion, as you se...

Well yes, I think so. If it was a subversive prank played against the people who commisioned the 'art', or the various politicians and public servants in Canberra, then it is kind of amusing. On it's merits as art, removed from all context, I think I could make a better sculpture by taking a shit. B...

The artist, Patricia Piccinini, has a history of creating art intended to create discourse on social issues. I got dragged along to an exhibit a few years ago. Wierd stuff. Here is the Young Family. A sculpture that was created when some issues of biotechnology were creating headlines a few years ag...

Apparently, your discount upgraded Mechanical Dragon gets fire magic if you GoR it. Worthwhile? I guess... They have awe/fear, along with high protection, high natural MR and immunity to every special damage type. They are pretty much a dragon pretender chassis, with the downsides that they are min...

Those not-abyssian sacred units have an ethereal secondshape and revert to their normal form after the battle. Even a couple of minor blesses would be interesting. You could probably attempt some shenanigans with the ascension rituals and twiceborn, elixers of life or an immortal pretender, but that...

... all of which could have been achieved without sending anything at all to the moon . Just because something happens to have some side benefits, doesn't give the goal itself some kind of value. All that money could have been spent on research for exactly those things, and it would have been cheap...

Think of it this way: In the 1960ies, power was ultimately expressed in terms of tank divisions and nuclear armed submarines. So the superpowers decided to engage in a race for the moon, the military and economic value of which was absolutely fuck-all. Aside from: areospace engineering applications...

My point was that in the real world people assume positions of power and authority in order to further their own interests, or the interests of some group. They perpetuate the legitimacy of that power through various means. Political position, wealth, belief systems and military strength all means b...

The Monstrous Compendium folder, with the original 2e Mind Flayer description has a note about the typical Mind Flyer city with an Elder Brain. The Elder Brain scouts the surrounding area telepathically (2-5 mile radius), then relays that information to it's colony. Consequently, Mind Flayers can on...

There has to be a distribution of threats where CR1 is the most common and the frequency of threats of CR N is decreasing as N increases. So when a CR20 threat arises, the noble tier that is approximately that badass deals with it. (Which might be the ruler, which would imply a CR 20 threat is an *...

I am not sure I agree with that. You still need armies, people with weapons and boots on the ground. They might not be able to stand up to a squad of magic wielding psychopaths, or even basic supernatural monsters, but they still have a purpose. First, squads of elite basasses have their place, but ...

The economics and politics of warfare differ from the economics of piracy and raiding. Political leaders have varying levels of involvement with traders. Maybe they just collect taxes from them and seize their goods when needed. Then again, they might offer political and military support in exchange...

As for raiding in winter, that just makes sense. Winter is when you starve if you have limited food stores.

You forget Capt. Jack Harkness, and whatever the lesbian reptile lady's name is. I try to. Captain Jack is a fully developed character that got a spin off show, Torchwood. So the problem with Mickey, is that a working class mechanic from London is not as interesting as a thousand year old, time travelling alien... I don't think that is the problem. I am not sure that the addition of romantic subplots between the Doctor and his companions was a great move for the show....

sci-fi carjackers with an illegal, ship disabling beam weapon. You'll also note that only the carjackers slave expressed any concern that there were people still alive on the TARDIS. They were sci-fi car-jackers, prowling space lanes, looking for ships to ambush so that they could run them through an illegal chop shop. Maybe that isn't especially racist, but I have not seen many non-white major characters since Davies was executive producer, so I tend to notice the diversity the...

Dr Who has become very disappointing with Moffat as lead writer and executive producer. I want to compare him to Mike Mearls, but that would be unfair. Moffat has actually produced some brilliant work, despite his many failings. I had thought that the addition of a new character would be a turning p...

Resource Pulse: Probably does not apply. I reread the thread and your initial post. Most carrion is an emphemeral resource. Things eat it, use it for reproduction and whatever is left tends to break down quickly. As such, there is a lot of competition for this resource, which attracts scavengers, in...
