I just noticed that you can't increase your stats in play. This is horrible. Technically, there's a +1 to one stat at the end of each talent tree, and there's fairly underwhelming cybernetics, but yeah. So the longer you expect the campaign to last, the better it is to blow all your chargen points ...

Yes, and? I didn't say that "worthless police force" means "open season on pigs", I said "worthless police force" means "you can bring grenade machine guns and shit on a run and the cops won't come after you." In what way are we disagreeing? I'm not talking ab...

If there ARE cops there, they will beat you if you go to guns. In these sorts of places they are the gang in blue. They have radios, reinforcements, lots of guns, loyalty to each other, and no reluctance use force. Bribes will probably work better. If the cops are useless A) not all of those things...

Shouldn't it depend greatly on where you are? There should absolutely be plenty of places (that the PCs actually want to go to!) where the cops are useless and you can go balls-to-the-wall with whatever you can carry, not to mention active war zones where you're tooling around with a merc company eq...

@OgreBattle: Silly answer, yes , depending on what you mean by " revolver ". Serious answer, at the things machine guns are good at, nope. If 100 guys are charging you from 300m away, an average dude with a Maxim is going to cut them to shreds. But someone only carrying a Colt Peacemaker s...

Except that you go into a fantasy or other RPG with some expectation of violence intrinsic to the game. It's more or less intertwined. And the odds of stumbling across someone who is the survivor of an infant cannibalism attack is fairly slim. If there's a woman in your party, the odds of her havin...

So. Am I just imagining things, or are American conservative Christians really planning to revive the culture wars on contraception? Right now, I just think that it's a flare-up of momentary insanity like the conservatives do with gold buggery. But it has increasingly come to feel like a 'thing'. I...

So that Forgotten Realms adventure is a 1e edition rules product, not even 2nd edition. :bash: Just look at the logo how it is missing the "2nd Edition" like all early (prior to 1995) 2nd edition materials. Wait, your argument for why it's not 2e is that it doesn't have the 2e logo on it ...

You know, the fucking rage, and whining that people direct at Jesus, or rather just religion in general is pretty fucking old. The deal is this. . . If there's no "higher power" or whatever then Frank is pretty much totally right about moral relativism. Nope. The two positions are tangent...

I never ride in modified vehicles in STAR WARS D6... That's not superstition, that's rational behavior. The ship modification rules in that game are ludicrously brutal. I've never seen another game where adding a bit more armor will periodically cause a TPK via hull breach. What's weird is that rig...

Yeah, a couple of the posters pointed out that if good gods can just grab people (including followers of other gods!) and torture them (possibly to death) with no save, so can evil gods. GG world. Setting aside that torturing people is kind of a disqualifier from "good", of course. That's ...

That's sensible. Now I'm looking for information on Greek, Roman, Medieval European agriculture. Seed drills were introduced to Europe in the 1500's, so how did they plant the seeds before that? Does anyone know anything of the two PANDEMIC expansions? Is there one I should avoid, or one I should buy before the other? Game On, fbmf if you don't want it to change from cooperative to one group of players versus one other player, steer clear of the bio-terrorist one. the other one is just mor...

Re: What to play after Arkham Horror

My old ttrpg group has shifted to playing board games now since we often can't get a consistant group together for rpgs any more. My friends and I really enjoy playing Arkham Horror, right now though we want to take a break from it for a bit. We took a break from it by playing Smashup (+expansion) ...

Morat, do you mind if I wikify that and paste that on Rationalwiki? If what you say is true, that's a game-changer on the level of, well, intentional statistics of blood-lead level in youth v. crime rates over decades. It's not, though, the Magic summaries were declassified in the 70s. I was always...

The Japanese request to keep their emp ire is real. Their request to keep their emp eror is bullshit. They requested only the retention of their emperor on August 10th, and the United States immediately agreed. Asking to keep the Empire is a hoax offer. That's just asking the US to stop fighting in...

(kind of like WWI was The Great War until WWII happened). Strangely enough, it was first called the "first world war" in September 1914 , and this guy wrote a book in 1920 called The First World War. Though I agree, it was perfectly clear what "The Old Republic" refers to, espec...

Okay, so if you can guarantee that everyone is superhumanly well-behaved, why does anarchy matter? Every form of government works pe...

The writing is certainly higher quality than Jordan ever was, but the metastatis of POV characters and the ever lengthening plot threads that don't go anywhere is really starting to give Wheel of Time a run for its money. You really could have set most of Dance on fire and lost nothing. Put it this ...
