This hasn't been our experience in playtesting. And I'm honestly curious what level character you feel is incapable making a DC 10 check. Who is capable of making a check isn't important. The question is who is capable of failing that check. And at first level, that's pretty much everyone. We have ...

So...20 (assuming 18 dex at start), +2 ability score bonus, you're using Tome so...+4 item bonus gets you to 26. Could get higher with a wish or 2... You're level 11 using tome. You should already have a small army of personal efreeti giving you wishes every morning before breakfast. You have at le...

...did you not read? We have been forced to play it as a Pathfinder game. Even though these guys started out as 3.5 players and I have told them of the flaws of Pathfinder a million times... His point is if by level 10 they're playing melee and aren't noticing they're lagging behind casters, chance...

The point is to give ALL monks access to some of these iconic monk-friendly feats. If that means that the monk that wants to get all of those feats needs to pony up with an Int of 13, I'm okay with that. He's already got the baseline feats for free, which puts him ahead of most other classes as far...

I am no longer surprised by designers who don't know how to play their own game, and then get super defensive when someone points it out. My favourite is Sajan, the monk . He's a level 8 monk with the feat Greater Disarm, despite the fact that (a) it has the prerequisite of +6 BAB so he can't take ...

I'd also add excessive dragon wanking to the list. They're big lizards that can cast spells. They don't need special rules to give them the [awesome] and 20 pages out of the Monster Manual to show how much the designers are fanbois. There are a lot of monsters that are more interesting that barely ...

First, for dice pools seen in play, in our games lighting modifiers, cover modifiers, etc frequently come into play, so you're usually looking at a negative dice pool modifier of -3 to -8. Also your typical enemy has 5-6 defense dice simply because wires are so cheap and easy to get. A higher class ...

I suggest going back to the drawing board. As you seemingly acknowledge there just aren't enough power points to get anywhere following this path. And most of the powers you came up with just aren't going to come up that often. You should really combine or drop a lot of these things. The majority o...

CGL is fucking insane. Either that or they have to pay a premium to print books any more, and they're passing that cost onto the consumer. To my understanding, printing is an issue of volume. Printing a few hundred books costs MUCH more per unit that printing 100,000 books. That economy of scale me...

[SR4] The Sharpshooter's Way
The other day while the group was playing shadowrun, it came up how cool it would be to have a gun adept that got more out of being an adept than just a few extra dice on his weapon skill. Adepts get all sorts of fun toys for unarmed combat, but other than that they're more or less just a dip in for...

What are you using for 10k3+20 damage with AP-10? I see several AP-10 weapons out there, but none that fit that damage description. Also remember the rule for going over 10 dice is add to the number kept before adding a flat +10 damage, so if you somehow got something up to 12k3, it would become 10k...

Lago, I'm not sure you're aware of this, but the game we're discussing is called Dungeons and Dragons. Yes, you are expected to be going dungeon crawling. Going the way you suggest, and balancing around 1-2 encounters a day, makes dungeon crawling quite literally impossible. You go into the dungeon,...

Have any of you guys looked through all the rules? It seems like there are a lot of balance issues, but it's introducing me to a variety of new concepts. I'm sure the idea has been played out in some game before, but I like the idea of picking a race AND a special template-thing. Yeah that's pretty...

Seerow, how the hell can you say that the healing surge model was the one thing the 4E designers got right and then go through a large rambling screed where the only thing that can really threaten PCs is by throwing a non-standard workday model at them? Even if this was possible to enforce in a way...

So, why is it the argument keeps cropping up that the problem comes from people focusing on in combat encounters and optimizing to kill monsters/bad people, and if the focus is taken off that, Fighters and other weaker classes are fine? Seriously, they're not. If anything, if you take combat out of ...

So, rather than reading through 120 pages of the thread, someone care to summarize what the result of all of this was? In the first post Frank was talking about the shadowrun license likely going elsewhere, but that was about a year ago, and I've seen nothing of the sort, so I assume that didn't hap...
