If the act of owning weapons/armor and knowing how to use it is what causes a soldier's wages to be so high, should there be mechanics in place for paying less in exchange for providing gear and training? Say you as the Baron in charge put in the investment to have some smiths craft your 250gp gear ...

Monks are support and mobility combatants, generally speaking, useful in moving around the battlefield to assist with problems. In this regard, they gain a number of abilities that allow them to work without the aid of others, which many of the other, straight fighter classes, lack to one degree or...

I considered using Dresden Files as an example, but it's a weird case and probably helps no one. I agree it probably doesn't help either side of this argument at all, but it is still an interesting case to look at. The ectomancy vs. necromancy mostly just sounds like ectomancy is necromancy that th...

Dealing with corpses is often taboo. Dealing with spirits is often a good guy thing though. Aragorn has his ghost army. Conan is saved by a valkyrie. Luke communes with the dead for advice all the time. I figure where Necromancy is seen as evil is 'consent'. Forcibly raising the dead, defiling tomb...

I had some houserules for 4e to make more distinct traditions. I'll see if I can dig them up. Edit: Found it, uploaded to google docs here No idea how any of it would translate to Shadowrun 5e. Quick Summary of it: Each tradition has one of three summoning styles. - Spirits as Tools translates to th...

@Seerow I see one glaring problem with that: What about cities? What about them? The way I read Occluded Sun's post was that the desert was the site of an ancient city that was run on necromancy. So that desert, ie the old city and surrounding wasteland, are all one big adventure location. Cities e...

The thing about multimonsters that rubs me the wrong way is that they're completely PC/NPC asymmetrical. Yes, pretending a bunch of dudes are actually four dudes stacked on top of eachother in a trenchcoat adds the actions and survivability needed for a boss, but now the orc barbarian king the part...

Negative energy doesn't have to be the equivalent of radioactive toxic waste or anything. But there would be clear reasons why using lots of undead to do things would have seriously bad consequences, why the undead tend to hunt down the living if left uncontrolled, and why druids hate them so much....

Feats seem like they could be fine as smaller effects if you got more of them, or if the way you got them was reworked (maybe some kind of Feat point system, where you have a refreshing pool of points each day and you spend them to use a feat rather than having to write feats down on your sheet and...

You may be talking about prestige classes, but I'm talking about the whole lot. Which is great and all, but still totally a non-sequitor given the line of conversation up to the point of you going off about feats. Since it started with me responding to Kaelik saying all prestige classes should have...

BAB requirements are bad on the face. If you're a fighter, it's too damn high for the feats you want. Fucking Tactical Feats should not come online at 6th level. If you're not a fighter, it's too damn high period. We're talking about prestige classes. What does this little rant about bab requiremen...

I am offended by a BAB prerequisite, because it fucks over very many classes that don't have fighter progression. If you want to make sure characters are this tall before riding the prestige class, just fucking set a level limit for entry. Unless the point is to give a prestige option aimed at the ...

So Frank points out that this could totally be solved by people writing the specific PrCs for each character in game. But it can also be helped by making every PrC have no requirements at all aside from level, and provide level appropriate abilities. I think something beyond JUST level is needed, b...

Archivist is more justifiable than Factotum. In a game that starts out at mid to high level, they can simply buy a bunch of divine scrolls with their starting gold and scribe them to their book. Even in-play, they can get quite a bit if the campaign has downtime. Factotum really does seem to be a c...

Wait, what are the positives? Priority chargen, fixed TNs, limits, cyberdecks, better unified mechanic (atrib+skill for almost everything), one attack per phase, streamlined matrix, higher combat lethality. You literally just listed things that were discussed as being horrible in the review. :bored...
