The Gaming Den

So, since seemingly Paradox needs to justify the reanimation of White Wolf's corpse besides a shell company to pass on their debt from the Bloodlines fiasco, we're getting a new Vampire. ...and this time, instead of Kenneth Hite, we get an ex-Hasbro stooge at the helm (not writing, just "at the...

Wow... which century was this game written again? Because the more I read, the more convinced I am that It Belongs In A Museum. From ye olde days before Genre Emulation was a thing and people just slapped weeb art on a trad book and call it an "anime game." https://lastfm.freetls.fastly.ne...

This makes too much sense, which means, alas, that only a few people will adopt this idea.

If you believe some games just work, could you give some examples and explain why you think they work? Mutants and Masterminds DOES emulate the superhero genre just fine. Is it perfect? No, it's easily exploited, but the more open-ended a system is, the more exploitable. I'm glad the book warns you...

I have this fuzzy, half-remembered memory from my childhood (80s) of my friend's mom (a chemist) saying that we can already turn lead into gold no problem, it's just that to obtain like $1 worth of gold, we would need to spend $100s on the resources to do it...now I need to go back and see if I can...

Right, yes, i actually did forget about Mexico. Fortunately, seemingly Cheeto Mussolini did too! Either that, or our puppet of a president made use of the skills that secured her position as our dictator's puppet so the anti-cartel operations have been (so far) actual anti-cartel operations as oppo...

Did I get Mandela'd? Did I step into some alternate universe unwittingly? Because none of Libertad's quotes match anything of what I know of the Den. Sounds like Libertad drank the Trailblazer Kool-Aid. If you ask me, the Den's main ethos (as a group) boil down to: 1) The shit I'm reading must make ...

Most DMs and PCs aren't going to like this, but it was inevitable. If the PCs earn XP at the "normal" rate, they'll be 8th level before they leave the first map. In order to keep this adventure challenging, we had to ignore that. The Litmus Test for whether a product is even worth looking...

Personally I'm all for effects-orientation systems, provided the list of effects is sufficient to create your fictional creature's identity and make it actually different from the druid next to you (see Mutants and Masterminds), otherwise we're going back to 4E's Cookie Cutter chargen which is the w...

Wondering how much longer until Wikipedia puts The United States of America article in the past tense.

You're assuming wikipedia itself will last that long? How optimistic!

Mearls' legacy was Calvinball. Ever since then, dnd is the game where everything is made up and the rules don't matter, but it's kinda depressing that it no longer warrants discussion here.

P.S: I didn't even know there was a Den discord.

No one has been willing to bite the bullet yet? No one eager to tear 5.5 a new one? At all?

I can't recommend Robocop: Rogue City enough.

It does look, feel, and play like the genuine item. I had no idea I missed a Robocop game this badly.

Good luck, and thanks for stepping up.

Pandaily claims Hasbro offered the IP to Larian first, but the price was so unreasonably high that they passed the ball to Tencent, and Hasbro trying to bamboozle Tencent into buying a mid (at best) IP for a king's ransom is something I'd believe.

Mearls had been already sacked years ago... he was only hired back by Winninger about a year or so ago, and put in a position where he could no longer do further damage, so it's not like he counts.

I wouldn't be that shocked if we got a Nazi party (or something similar) for the 2028 election. Your country already has 2 nazi parties, why would you want a third? Ok, I know the Republicans have gotten pretty close to outright genocide with some of their stuff "Close"? My sibling in Fly...

A friend recently refered me to Gundam: The Witch From Mercury. It starts as your tired, average school drama, but give it a chance, it has a similar narrative structure to My Hime/My Otome: It starts lighthearted but only remains stupid long enough to ease you and sell you out on the premise, then ...

And the world is a darker place now.

Thing is, the only reason most people playing dnd do so is the sloth of not leaving their comfort zone. Their sloth is stronger than their hatred of dnd... because they DO hate it and everything it stands for, including, but not limited to: 1) Agency (because NO, they don't hate the "haves vs h...

Yes, having the monsters exist somewhere other than the real world would be different than a masquerade. Real talk... FUCK THE REAL WORLD . Strangereal is perfectly serviceable and allows you to depict your world in ways other than our cyberpunk hellscape, a planet without rising fascism and dictat...

Not as glorious as last three, but still reflects enough of game tables' reality.

Is this like that episode of Pen and Teller's Bullshit where they manipulated a statistic to say America's favorite pet was a giant mecha praying mantis?

See, instead of a new space for a thousand new RPGs to bloom, I'm predicting we just get another half a decade of Pathfinder on the throne, since Paizo have proven before that they can take the top spot and I'm unaware of any changes in management or zeitgeist that would remove their ability to do ...

Glad to still have this place around.
