That's more or less the pitch of the Dungeon comic book (except that monsters aren't prisoners, they're employees).

The big difference between Bright and Shadowrun (and Alien Nation) is the lack of an Awakening.
Also (from what I could tell from the trailer) the lack of all the Cyberpunkish societal aspects.

For me the difference between a good and a memorable adventure are: - Meaningful choices: choices that tells something about the personality of your characters, choices that might be difficult to make or that require deep thinking. If playing a different characters would have led me to making differ...

Sounds like a generic monster encounter in Dying Earth.

Re: Diving into my Steam backlog

Is there a game in that genre that has more complex win conditions, or do they all look like this and Civ? Crusader Kings 2 has an interesting take: it has no win conditions. It has a scoring mechanism, but it doesn't really push you to reach a high score. Instead you pretty much set your own goals...

You could also explain a lot of things by having completely incapable people in charge who only follow rule of cool: "Sir, I think our strategies and tactics are completely outdated, with the technology we have we could..." "... Build a huge starship that could blow up planets?" ...

As usual with a game mechanic, the good question to ask yourself is "What would that bring to the game?". The only answer I can imagine is "It makes sure that character advancement is in line with their action". Thus, the only acceptable solution I'd see would be to use XP but on...

Linking Chaos and Evil means that you consider change to be evil. This perfectly makes sense when you've got a conservative dictatorship that want to maintain the status quo. In that case, Chaos will be: - Knowledge: because knowledge opens the mind to new possibilities - Creativity: for obvious rea...

Some more questions: How much detail should we have to pay attention to or how much can just be handwaved. My game group generally likes "kick in the door" style game play, but a lot of the material suggests a picture like "mission accomplished! but you forgot to do X! Game over! Tha...

There are a lot of 'David versus Goliath' stories and people forget that David isn't supposed to win without the power of god. When you take into account that: - Slings were extremely precise and dangerous weapons, they probably had longer range than the bows of that period. - The rocks in the plac...

Presuming you make changes to Bug Spirits to keep them sane in SR4, what are some good motivations to give them? IIRC, the only official motivation is "make more bugs. humans go well with white wine." In one of my campaigns, the insect spirits were just creatures from another plane that h...

@virgil: As far as automation is concerned, it's possible to have a fully automated stuffer shack. However, there are three arguments that can be made against it: 1. After stuff like the Renraku Arcology incident and Crash 2.0, people tend to be wary of fully automated stuff. It's fine to have clean...

During his campaign, Macron was more or less pre-election King Smurf. He'd support everyone and have speeches where he'd enthusiastically shout bland campaign stuff. I'd say "Tête de noeud".

I'm not looking forward to 5 years of Macron, but it beats 5 years of FN. Let's just hope that it's not just postponing them. There's still the unknown of the legislatives elections, that will decide which majority Macron will have to work with.

Reminds me of Kotor, where you don't get any dark side points for breaking and entering into people's home and stealing their stuff, but you do get it when asking for payment for a good deed. The office of the developers should be really weird: "Where the printer?" "I took it" &q...

In that game, regardless of how good or bad a pitch is, the mathematically correct play is to always promote your own project over anyone else's -- that's a fail state for the design of this sort of game, where the point is to come up with the best pitch. In party games, players rarely care about w...

I like the concept. If you want to stop there, you should just have players do the pitch, and then the best pitch is decided (either by a vote or by the producer) and you move on. I think the Production Phase would make the game too complex for a "party game" à la CaH. But if you want to g...
