All editions have wonky rules but all are at least playable out of the box. I don't think I've ever heard someone saying that the SR1 rules were superior to any other editions. SR3 is mostly a fixed SR2. It is more complex than the following editions, but if you're able to keep in mind all the rules...

Robotrek was pretty fun. The items combining and the combos were great. They did lead to too easy combat once you found the right ones but that reduced the necessary grind so I didn't mind. The story was great in that it started as a light story with a humorous tone, and you didn't expect it to go v...

Anyone know of any good places, online or brick-n-mortar, that could make custom miniatures, preferably someplace that won't be too expensive? If there's a FabLab or a similar group of enthusiast near you and you have the 3d model, you can try to print them with a 3d printer. The level of details m...

A state with no tax incomes (including business taxes and tariffs) would have few options: - Finding other sources of incomes such as selling property, getting donations, having profitable businesses and re-injecting the benefits in the State (which is some form of taxes). The first one wouldn't wor...

I understand your problems with CGL and with SR5. I agree that changing a core system which works is a dangerous move. But I don't think it's necessarily a bad one and I don't think you can blame someone just for doing it. You can blame him for the way he does it. So far, the Limit system doesn't se...

I'm not as bitter and disgruntled as many of you about Shadowrun. I've been disappointed by what CGL has been releasing since Vice but from what I've seen so far about SR5 it doesn't look terribad and there are even some nice things. I wasn't expecting much so, so far, I'm pleasantly suprised by wha...

I don't see your point. Someone who refuses your premises will always dislike what you'll do. It's the same with hardcore physicist who refuse to accept that space has friction and will refuse to play a Space Opera game where spaceships work as if there was friction. Some people are able to suspend ...

You can hate cypherpunks all you want, but blaming the expectation of realism on them is absurd. Many people - and not only cypherpunks - want their Matrix to be realistic, or draw comparison with existing computer systems and networks. Or at least, they want an explanation to why things work. Encry...

That's not a problem if they also have similar modifiers for Awakened. Awakened characters, and especially mages (as opposed to adepts) have always been portrayed as strange people who think differently from Mundanes. The effect might be different of the effect of ware, but it being Awakened should ...

The opening post talks about two different and mostly unrelated issue. The first is the dehumanizing aspect of cyberware. Most games have been using this as a game-balance element more than anything else. In CP2020 you become a cyberpsycho if you have too many implants, in Shadowrun you die (and in ...

One of the biggest advantage of variable TN with fixed dice pools is that you can roll first and count result after. Even if it doesn't look like it, it seems, in my experience, to make things go faster and smoother. And if someone realize that a modifier has been forgotten, there's no need to roll ...
