The true equalizer is ALCOHOL. I'm interested on your ideas and would like to sign your newsletter. tl;dr: Fighters do suck. That was the whole point of D&D design. The class should be renamed Jester. I always interpreted this as nerd's revenge. The D&D designers clearly self inserted as ma...

For me, the important difference between low and high level adventures should both be vertical (super orcs) and horizontal (your enemies are mindblanked in the astral plane sending summoned angels against you at the most inconvenient times). Just supercharging the numbers is a big part of why the Ep...

While a bit afraid of posting in a thread that still reeks of the grave, I'd love to see a functional blue mage base class. I'm not even sure why, it would be a potential nightmare to balance and it'd have a much worse version of the ranger's favored enemy problem. But I loved having them in party i...

Two words: touch attack. Herr Mauser says that your +10 Full Plate can suck a barrel of cocks. This is hilarious since historic full plate armor was actually proofed against that age's pistols. As in, the armorsmith would shoot at the armor and verify the bullets didn't go through. Guns (and Crossb...

I'm another cynic relative to our future. I think that in objective terms, life will be absurdly better - lifespans of 200-300 years for the rich, 120 or so for most people. We'll probably be taller than today. I was talking with a friend these days and he mentioned the "elfinization" of h...

There won't be real mass movements in the western world anymore (at least on the foreseeable future) because the people in power figured the bread and circus formula. We're not hungry anymore, and there's too much entertainment around for people to get really angry and focused to topple anything wor...

It's still in development, but keep your eye on this: http://www.mysteriouscastle.com/ It is a fairly light/simple game, also outrageously hard and very random, and still deeply in beta. Whoa, this is looking nice! But I'd like to register a complaint: The very hard bit is true regarding the Knight...

TRPG Heartbreaker

So I found this game here: http://www.heroicfantasygames.com/ I bought it, played it, had a blast. However, it's very limited in that it's very easy to find an optimal group and tactics. In other words, I don't want to replay that game after having played with two wizards, one cleric and one warrior...

Look, these strategies are nice. For them. I'm a potential consumer here. And as a consumer being marketed to, you control the product in this form of marketing. If they wanted to, they could sell you a product by making up arbitrary assumptions that they then convince you that you want (like the l...

The Vashar aren't evil, as presented, they're psychotic. They literally could not function, and would not survive if left to their own devices the way they are described. That shit needs to be fixed or explained. And if the explanation is that demons are hiding among the Vashar and making it seem l...

Do you think the option: "critical fumbles" is still just so they can ignore every vote of people who voted for that one? I'm not so optimist. I have two competing ideas of what's actually happening at WotC right now, none of them nice: 1) They have no idea of how to actually implement th...

Yes, I agree. Oh, you wanted more examples too? Well, today I was thinking about how to make decent cultures that weren't alignment caricatures. I thought then about having different scales of values for them. For instance, in D&D, the good guys have the following values at at the top of their m...

Since there's a couple of months since I last played a D&D session and a couple of years (here couple meaning 5-6) since the last real campaign, any time I spend here is more time than I spend gaming.

I can't help but to read that L&L as a big "give us some ideas to steal" claim. At very least, it does look like they'll try to recreate PF's open playtest success. (marketing success, I mean)

If 5e will be mostly MTP, what will they put into their books? Optional rules nobody will use and there for nobody will buy? Fluff, background, settings? - migth actually work, DSA has horrible rules, but their Setting Books dont have rules. I, for one, would buy artbooks that were nothing but fluf...

And the D&D designers didn’t. Instead, they made ability scores actually matter. As discussed in the skills and abilities seminar, ability scores now act as a sort-of passive skill check. If you want to open a barred door and that door’s DC is 13. If you have a strength ability score of 15, you...

Yeah, given all these different complexity levels they keep talking about, fan-made content will be a nightmare . I think it's a bit worse than this. What the thread from the future (which, btw, was WORLDFILTEROWNED, making it even more authentic!) tried to show is that different complexities will ...
