So - played enough to get half a chapter's worth of content. I'm going to have to think on my strategy a bit before completing it.

Anything's fine by me - it's my first MP Game so I don't really have an opinion on maps and stuff.

A link to the map chosen would be nice, though.

Allright, so

1-Midgard
2-Caelum
3-Arco

... unless one of those is particularly terrible and I haven't realized it yet.

The only way their system will work even remotely is if they don't actually intend for players or monsters to do all that much power scaling. Which is totally possible, I can see a team of 12 orc archers being a credible threat at level 10 to a 5E fighter if they're not blinged out in magic gear. I...

Yep - if you have troops right next to an enemy city, you get a detailed report on the units in the city (look at the first picture of the city of Soest in the second chapter) What you'll find there depends a lot on the enemy wizard's personality, and whether it's a captured city or something built ...

You are aware that people actually hate all the bullshit inserted storyline RPing shit you are doing right? Actually, considering nobody said fucking anything about it, no, I'm not aware of it. I'm not wedded to it, though, so if people really don't like it, let me know and I'll cut it out. I tend ...

Chapter 2 - The Power of Magic Vernon sighed. The plan had seemed such a good one. Instead of fighting the other familiars for the attentions of this generation's potential Masters, get a powerful wizard from another world - in fact, THE most powerful wizard from that other world. Except that appare...

Yeah, it is - got sidetracked by real-life stuff a bit (and yeah, OK, Dom3) but I'm plinking on chapter 2 as we speak.

Now, in fairness, there's stuff we don't have that requires work. Say character creation. We don't have the rules but they exist, since they created characters. Still, the level of half-assing found in the documents is staggering. It literally looks like something they threw together last week. Edit...

Frankly, at this point this thing is a poorly executed marketing move. It's clear that this isn't a well thought-out rule system - hell - even calling it a system is a stretch. I'm guessing that they had nothing ready when they announced the playtest, and they threw this shit together last week. Hon...

So I've played a bit - I've won my share of games against the normal AI (just to figure out the basic gameplay and stuff) - I even took a game to it's bitter end. I'm now playing on hard (one try before jumping to the toughest difficulty level) to hone my skills - and I want to work out what are the...

Fuck it. Why is this so hard to understand: If wearing heavy armor is an advantage, then light armor + Dex bonus shouldn't be as good as wearing heavy armor + same Dex bonus. That goddamn "heavy armor is so clumsy it penalizes your defense" meme should die a fiery death. Maybe it is realis...

http://www.montecook.com/cgi-bin/page.cgi?montejournal I post this mostly for the "Ego Management" posting, scroll down a bit to see it.¸ I really dig Cook's assholish, passive-aggressive approach to explaining why he left the 5e design team. Man - he probably has some sort of termination ...

:)

Nah, forget it then. I can get by playing solo until the next one. And honestly I probably still need to do some homework to be at least better than an AI nation.

Well, yeah. Or if you really want to do it before your heroes are juggernauts, build a trireme and capture some out-of-the-way backwater, then move your summoning circle there and spam stuff.

But still. The option's there if you really, really, really want to do it. :)

Any chance of me joining the game?

I'm still at the learning the ropes stage - but still, I managed to conquer a couple of AI independent provinces, that means I'm ready for the big league -right?

I'll take whatever nation remains and isn't too horrible for a first-time player to use.

Just a note to mention I've played enough to create a Chapter 2. Making the write-up will take longer, but the gaming is done. And no spoilers, but we're gearing up for an interesting early game. :) Of note: yes, we can now recruit lizardmen. Which creates a conundrum: I really wanted to showcase th...

OK - strategy time (and audience participation.) I'll be finishing up the Sawmill over at Damascus pretty soon. That's one of the pre-reqs for Horsebowmen, but it's also a good early building so in the interest of getting the LP going, I decided to just get going. But now that I have the time to ask...

So - I'm attempting to write this up as a story. No guarantee that it'll be any good. Gameplay comments in italics . Chapter 1 - Under the Skies of Arcanus Lawrence Chatham was, by all accounts, a pretty smart young man. Not a genius by any means, but overall a bright kid, the kind who could always ...

Well, you can get some mileage out of combined arms, notably in city defense against spell-happy wizards and in city assaults. But mostly I think the longbowman's interesting as a very early racial unit, for that initial rush to expand. But maybe it doesn't work out in practice - I've never ran the ...

Yeah - I forgot about that - Dark Elves too, and Beastmen produce a bit as well I think. Certainly something to keep in mind. Oh - and for those following at home. I forgot to mention that some races don't like being ruled by other races. So if I play High Elves, Nomads, High Men and Halflings won't...
