There's a discussion (argument?) about the SR5 running-silent icon thing on DS here: http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?showtopic=39942&view=findpost&p=1266958. People who are defending the Matrix rules and saying they're not broken are keying on a line in the rules that says: "If yo...

The real problem with chargen in Shadowrun is not to handle the math of the attributes/skill costs (which Priority system helps with). Especially when you use a chargen software. The real problem is gear God this is so true. The part of making a character I always dread is the gear loadout. Almost ...

I've been hearing from the SR5 apologists that the priority charagen system helps to avoid certain unbalanced builds, like the rigger who hides in an armored car trunk. True? False? Unless overcasting and spirit summoning were reworked from scratch I'm not sure the "balanced" sweet spot t...

That makes sense. I thought that qualities were 2x(cost) after char gen, so under the karma system they would be 2x(2xBP) or whatever. But if they're the same cost at chargen and after in the karma system, that's just one more reason to like the karma system that much more. And yeah, one more fail f...

Along those lines, I've never understood the double-cost of qualities after character creation (not just SR, but Gurps too, probably other systems). Almost always, buying a new quality (or buying off a neg quality) is subject to GM-approval anyway, so it's not like there's going to be characters sud...

@Blade, thanks for the reply. Yeah, a lot of the magic stuff in SR4 qualifies for that kind of label of "rules-lite". Things like "if a mage treats a summoned spirit badly, the spirit may turn on them" or whatever. Or the Spirit Affinity PQ. Or countless others.

Blade, can you post some of what you saw as the SR4 streamlining that required more GM discretion / interpretation?

Roll-under is only simpler than TN 100 roll over on an unmodified roll. Once you start messing with integers, roll-over gets increasingly simpler in comparison.
Link please? I'd like to read that.

The rules for that are pure Mother-May-I as well. Q: what constitutes an "attack"? A: there are no actual rules to cover that, but you'll know it when you see it * example: what if I throw a grenade, not at the person, but at the ground near them? Can I do that twice a round? And if not, w...

If you really want to troll people, get a semiautomatic grenade launcher. Enjoy discussing explosive rebound and the sturdiness of every single wall and floor, twice per initiative pass. <shakes finger> nuh uh uh! You can only make one "attack" an initiative pass in SR5 now. No, I'm not s...

Didn't say it made it better, just trying to help identify what the problem was. If what I read on DS was accurate, it wasn't that someone didn't know how to make archetypes, it's that the editors didn't feel the need to update the archetypes after the rules changed. Biggest gripe? "Shoot strai...

Re: SR5 book archetypes, I think I've heard it said that when the archetypes were created they WERE fully functioning and rules-legal, but then the rules were changed a zillion times and the archetypes weren't updated to match.

Aside from the covers (which are awful) especially the brony edition (awful AND stupid, a combination Jason Hardy specializes in), the book is fairly pretty. That's really all I can say. The book is another thing I hate about the new edition, mostly because the layout is god-awful. Info is placed h...

Sounds like you have more than zero interest :) I'm in a few PbP games. So far, the biggest thing I want to complain about is how horrible the new Priority build system is. Second place goes to how dumb the whole wireless bonus thing is. The biggest thing I like is...hmmm. Nothing yet, really. Maybe...

As GM, you can tell players of adventurer-tier PCs something like, “You wouldn’t want to fall into that crevasse, it’s a champion tier environment. And if the demons in the crevasse happen to be off-gassing? Then it’s epic tier.” And if they get caught in the crevasse anyway, you’ve got the champio...

I'm not sure if you're asking for a by-the-book rules interpretation, or something about "Ends Ally rules". Rulebook-wise, Street Magic has rules for this: the merge will be flesh-form or hybrid-form or true-form, with different powers depending on the merge. There's a sidebar on one of th...

Yeah, I don't think these are common houserules. About the only one I would say is ok is keeping the same init scores throughout the whole combat. The 4th one (no multiple IPs) seems like it's more complicated and requires more thinking than just being able to act multiple times. The 5th one seems b...

And so the mechanics that are there are the kinds of things that, you know, so much of the time I feel like players in a particular game, you have to tell a story in spite of the rules. Like the dice roll indicates something that doesn’t really work for what’s supposed to happen , or the character ...
