The biggest problem with 5e there appears to be no coherent business plan. The fundamental mechanics are fine, I guess. Having at least read over them, they don't seem worse than any previous edition and any less patchable. Actually, they seem pretty sound. Like others said, the content is so super...

I think there is virtually no chance of 5e succeeding the way 3e did, and I am willing to bet real world money that it won't even match 4e. They abandoned their splatbook a month model and are going with adventure paths. While that is a move I agree with, it carries a inherent risk in that if the pa...

Ability checks are stupid and need to die in a fire.

Increase all ability check DC's by +10 and use d20+ability score. Allow a creature to continue movement on a successful check. Problem solved.

Crap of different color is still crap.

Nothing much would change. Everyone would still play humans (if they want a feat) or any race that gives +2/+2 to their primary and secondary attribute if they don't.

Or with all their organs intact.

Anyway, I had more success with intra party conflict with PbP games rather then face to face sessions. Though it bears mentioning that most of my players come from a DnD background, so their characters don't go to the bathroom alone if they can help it.

But that is fucking stupid. It just encourages one dimensional characters. A +1 bonus makes a difference on a d20 roll once every 20 times. So for most of the rolls you won't even notice. Where you will notice is when you use that +1 a lot, that is with your primary attribute. So it just encourages ...

40K only has one movie that I am aware of, which is in the category of not very terrible, at least IMO. What they do have (and had) a bevy of quality computer games. Fuck, I got into the hobby because of Dark Omen. DnD used to have good computer games under its belt. The best of which came out sligh...

I would measure the success of a product by its ability to license its IP to other stuff. Ie, how much other companies want in on the action. Essentially citations for non academia. Or a successful diversification of the IP from the parent company. So stuff like 40K is obviously successful. You have...

I don't know, Dark Reapers are already good enough with their own dedicated transport, the Waveserpent. 48" range means they don't really have to move much anyway. The only unit in the Eldar codex I see getting some use out of is Harlies and maybe Wraithblades. Banshees are hopeless anyway. Unl...

There are some defenders on the GitP forums, but its slowly dawning on people that 5e is not what was advertised.

Its even more exacerbated by the fact that INT is a dump stat for most classes, and aside from this SoD, only Maze has a INT saving throw. So yeah, the odds are really good that at least one PC ends up dead. And since the Devourer takes control of the target creature, it can snowball quickly.

So 4 of these little guys, at whatever level, hides in little peasant children bodies. They walk up the our adventurers, jump out and do their multiattack, choosing the guys in the plate for their target. They quickly stun, and then enter his body, attacking the other partymembers. So all this will ...

The pit fiend hits itself on a 5+, but even bullshit monsters hit it on a 15+. The pit fiend's damage output is a bit over 70 if everything hits, so it drops itself in 5 rounds on average. Bullshit monsters meanwhile do like 10 damage on a hit, which means they need about 100 attacks to drop the pi...

Inspiration.

Anyway, some of the MM got released. Among the broken things is the Pixie, CR 1/4 with several spells (1/day) confusion and polymorph are the notable ones.

Summon Woodland creatures as a lvl 4 spell summons 8 Pixies. As a level 6 it summons 16 of them. 1 hour duration, concentration.

You can multiclass to a sorceror for 2 levels to use metamagic to give it 30' range. Your to hit is your proficiency + casting stat, so its pretty maxed. Some kind of advantage is not hard to get.

You can do some shenanigans with planar binding as well, thought that requires two casters. But if you have them, you basically have infinite elementals bound to you for a infinite amount of time. Esplain? (side note: I remember in basic and 1e running around with a cadre of fighting dogs or mercen...

A necromancer can do it faster (and with stronger skeletons), but ultimately its 4 skeletons per lvl 3 slot, or 4+(x-3)*2 per spell slot, where x>=3. Undead thralls doesn't let you control more then other casters. So its pretty trivial for any caster that can cast animate dead to get a bunch of skel...

The biggest wreck so far is the necromancer with animate dead. It starts off at level 5, with 8 skeletons each with 18 hp, +4 to hit and 1d6+5 damage with shortbows. Right then and there that is probably enough damage for 2 party members. And you still have level 1 and 2 spells. IT goes up to level ...

What exactly are these theoretical orcs going to do in a theoretical adventure to make theoretical PCs feel sad? Has anyone looked at how many basic orcs it would take to kill that level 17 red dragon? Its depressingly low. I don't know about orcs, but shortbow armed skeletons have a +4 to hit and ...

The point is that you don't have to fucking MTP. What if its not commoners, but its goblins with the same fucking modifier? A level 20 fighter, optimized for damage, with a greatsword against AC 18 has a DPR of 43. Double that for action surge.

So not only do 5e characters do less damage (then their 3.5 counterparts), the monsters have more hp.
