Depends on how risk-averse you are.

It should constitute fair use, and AFAIK WotC/Magic isn't especially ligitious, but if they do notice and take offense... well, they have lots of money for lawyers and you (presumably) do not.

I just came home from a showing of the Ghostbusters remake, and I've got to say... wow! I had pretty tepid expectations, because the trailers made it look like a really bad comedy -but instead it was a really good popcorn-action-comedy. I mean, the original Ghostbusters had a better villain, and the...

d&d is a game about stabbing people in the face and looting their corpses while we all sit at a table drinking mountain dew and eating doritos. Such activity is slowed down to a grinding if every encounter turns into an ethics and philosophy debate, and it stops beign fun. Alignments and "...

This is really clean, structured and well organized, well done!
I'm not a fan of such an abstract positioning and distance system, otherwise I'd like to play it -as is, I will at least cannibalize heaps of it -and imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, isn't that what they say?

As far as I know, D&D originates this one. You don't really see it outside of RPGs and their derivates, you'll notice.

Just finished Andy Weir's The Martian. Good book and fun reading, but despite the obvious PR reasons I have a hard time believing the way the book presents not only all of the US Government, but the entire world up to and including the Chinese space program setting aside all other concerns and worki...

Deliberately choosing suboptimal (i.e less than literally optimal) options has never been a problem, as long as you are still playing a character who can hold their own in an SGT when all is said and done. Accidentally choosing trap options, or having no good options to pick for a given archetype, ...

9-12 Paragon, 13-16 Legendary. But really, I question whether there is conceptual need/room for 5 tiers - Basic/Heroic/Paragon/Epic is clear, but when you add a 5th one it seems like you're left having to stretch/split what used to be one tier to cover 2, whether the overlap happens between Heroic/P...

When you make cool luxuries into worthless trap options it isn't supporting cool luxury in fiction goals it is DOING THE OPPOSITE and eventually ALL the players will wise up and EVERYONE'S "in fiction goals" will be "MOAR FUCKING ADDITIONAL PYLONS". I see where you're coming fro...

Look, PL, game balance is important but in the end, if your character doesn't have any in-fiction goals (that, being fictional, are objectively speaking entirely meaningless to pursue) you're just playing Progress Quest.

What sort of Gelugons are you talking about here, Hyzmarca? Because in 3E, Gelugons have DR 10/good, AC 32 and fire immunity, meaning that this mass of level 1 archers has to be very large indeed and setting them on fire is just going to make them feel at home. Edit: Ninjaed by your edit. I see that...

If you are not doing the standard D&D defenses but are still making a medieval fantasy heartbreaker, having a set of three defenses that are essentially AC/Ref, Fort, Will seems like an okay setup to me. Also, the fact that, in 3E, most Fort and Will effects are save or dies but most Ref effect...

More of a game design question than a game question, but I figure it's not worth its own thread so it goes here: What's the best setup for saving throw categories? The old "wand/spell/death/poison/trap/cool ranch" setups from pre-3E D&D are obviously kind of crap, and "each attrib...

Even better to just throw out mental ability bonuses from aging completely, because they are bullshit. People don't get more keen or charismatic as they grow older, if anything it's exactly the opposite.

Are the Austrian Greens the same kind of slightly centre-leaning ecoliberals that you get elsewhere in Europe (as modified for the local Overton Window) or are they something more unusual?

Thanks for the explanations regarding Ordoliberalism, they tell indeed a different story than the one I heard. My friends were mostly impressed by a system that, some argue (they couldn't tell me the sources), implemented capitalistic competition, but collected taxes and did social welfare with the...

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and do that, but I'm sceptical of inserting such a radical change into what's basically a D&D heartbreaker.

I want to agree with you, DSM -but if you tear down the EU, what do you replace it with? Having a structure to facilitate international cooperation, trade and freedom of movement across Europe is a very good thing, even though the EU turned into a monster.

The best schools to ban are your least favorite two of Enchantment, Evocation or Necromancy. (Banning Necromancy is extra good in PF, since you can cast most of the downtime spells anyway with the changes PF made to "banned" schools and Evocation doesn't have any downtime spells.) Other th...

The fact that "familiar" is often used for animals is actually neutral or arguably even a plus in my view, since plenty of vampires make use of animal ghouls. You could put in a few sentences about how early vampires used to make familiars of wolves, birds and bats for hunting and surveill...
