While it is obviously fucking idiotic to look down your nose at someone for wanting to put a protective amulet in their D&D game, I am somewhat sympathetic to the idea that the link between form and function in magic items shouldn't be completely arbitrary or cosmetic.

It would not be "problematic", but it would be very emblematic of the sort of latter-day Vampire lore-cruft that nobody ever got anything but eye rolls out of, so I don't think you should do it. I don't mind "ghoul" but if you put a gun to my head and told me to change it, I'd pr...

I started playing (casually, I was a kid) around 7th edition and played a fair bit of Limited during Invasion and Odyssey block. I never played in any Constructed tournaments, but I played a fair amount of casual Constructed. Then I drifted out of the game (we all started playing D&D and Vampire...

This is a cool idea. I'd love to play it.

But since there didn't seem to be enough interest in your other VtM ideas in the Trenches, I'm guessing the chances are slim?

I ran a con game of Feng Shui once which was almost exactly that - a high-action parody of various overwrought Vampire tropes. It was called Dracula Must Die (which was also the plot -kill Dracula before he Takes Over The World!) and it opened with a fight against a small army of ninja vampires in a...

I am also interested in this, for purposes of a heartbreaker. Armor as damage reduction is the intuitive way, but making that scale smoothly over 20 levels (classes only go to 15 in my system, but monsters can have up to 20 HD) seems impossible -unless you use percentiles, so that say leather armor ...

I'm not so sure about that. One of my friends made the same argument when we went to see the movie - "Right, they'll retire as enforced by who?" - but most of the Avengers (Thor, Hulk and, generously, Vision being the exceptions) aren't actually "super enough" that they could con...

I agree, the new Spiderman was great. The new aunt May though... don't get me started. But the big thing that annoyed me with Civil War, and by extension, many of these movies (and yes, I know that it's pretty much what you sign up for with superhero movies since it's part and parcel of the genre) i...

Alternative suggestion: Knock 5 off all DCs and go to 1d10. Smaller range, modifiers matter more, but still linear. DCs of 5 or lower will need some adjudication, but that shouldn't be a problem -just set them at 1-3. (TN 3 on 1d10 is identical to 5 on 1d20 odds-wise, disregarding modifiers.)

Sometimes (often) you will cast Fire because it will cause enough damage to kill the monster, Firaga would be overkill and it saves MP for later fights. In fact, in FF 9, if I recall correctly, I would rarely use Firaga because it was so inefficient.

Yes, but his point (which was evident to me at least from his initial comment) was that when it's enforced by magical drugs and necromancy, the logistics are much easier. And also, that the human slaves are not a labor force, so assumptions about how efficient it would be to maintain such in Enoch a...

There's no slavery in the usual sense because virtually every human in Enoch is Blood Bound, and ghosts can perform unskilled labor. The liches probably have a bunch of permanently enthralled street sweepers and gofers. Enoch is a place of worship and study, a bolt hole, and most importantly, where...

Then maybe I can now get some feedback on my similar build: I know this isn't optimal (I want more Visitors and Gorgers, the fourth Ruins and probably a couple of Olivias) but it's annoyingly hard to get the cards where I live and if I buy online I get reamed on tolls. Going to try to play some seal...

But in Legacy that deck is going to be no fun, because it's far too slow and inconsistent. Imagine a Planeswalker stomping on the face of a bear, forever.

Edit: Also, why would you run only 3 Ashcoat Bears when you're running Grizzly Bears? Ashcoat Bears are strictly better.

I think Malazahn completely lost me when it devoted half a book to some girl becoming a willing sex slave. Hang on, when did that happen? It's a long time since I read this series but I don't remember that -are you thinking of Felisin? Because if you are, she wasn't exactly willing and it didn't ex...

Cooler and more gameable nonhuman races. (Which to some extent comes down to just "less dumb", since they're mostly the same with better implementation, but Moonfolk are neat). Actual animism with a diverse spirit world instead of humanocentric, pantheonic polytheism. Other than that, they...

After the Mending, does being a Planeswalker give you anything other than immunity to aging and (self-only) Plane Shift at will? Because that's a power set that you could have at 1st level in a game that was set up for it, with no trouble. To answer your question though... most of the Magic settings...

That doesn't look like it has anything to do with the comic? Unless that thing in the cornfield was supposed to be Genesis, but if so this was a really weird trailer.

You can do it in FATE the same way you can do anything in FATE: Create An Advantage and introduce a scene aspect that reflects a change in the environment or the creation of a hazard. That's not a very satisfying solution, but if you want to implement this in a more granular system in a way that doe...

Speaking of R/B Vampires - I bought the preconstructed deck and found it to be both fun and relatively high quality, so I decided to put one together, so I'll have a somewhat competitive standard-legal deck again. I don't entirely have the cards to build the decks you've suggested, and in a deck tha...
