A DM once told me "You can use the feats only if you use a new feat slot each time it scales up", or similar, I can't recall perfectly. It was a vodka fueled session. That's... the antithesis of meaning of the words: "scaling feat". Probably approaching "communication is im...

2) You want to run a new OS targeting new hardware on old hardware. That's sort of your fault and the obvious answer is "Stick with the old OS" or "Upgrade my hardware". Oh actually Win10 integrates optimization to core modules which makes it run notably better on old or under-s...

Reasons I don't want win10: 1-The Metro interface - it's so spectacularly ugly and intuitive I don't even want to learn it. And seeing my reasonably tech-savvy girlfriend struggle with it for even basic productivity tasks after several months' usage... 2-The total lack of user control over most fun...

What this implies is that you should pull a 2nd Edition AD&D trick, where only a few classes can be multiclassed. Say, you can multiclass "basic classes" like Warrior or Mage, but not "advanced classes" like Ranger or Necromancer. In this way, the number of multiclass combin...

Reading that sandstorm review, I realize I made a slightly inaccurate statement, they weren't torture/rape lesbians, they were torture/rape bisexual nuns. Wouldn't want to slander the guy, gotta be accurate.

Been reading Wizard's First Rule . Just got to the explanation of how the Confessors' magical power works. Said explanation is so bad that I think I'm giving up on the book. I read enough cheesey fantasy that I can stomach the "how horrible it is to be cursed with this awesomeness". I can...

Do you have extra lives like in Paranoia? I like the idea that each of your masters has given you a way to cheat death that doesn't work against them (so they can reasonably expect to kill you for your failures), but you have so much redundancy that you really do just have six lives. You only have ...

I think that was sort of his point, the characters in game of thrones are seriously 3rd or 4th level characters max, and anyone who does magic doesn't do it in a way that resembles the D&D spell list. People in game of thrones just straight up die if you stab them right. Occasionally there are h...

My understanding of the mechanics that govern what areas pokemon spawn in is this: pokemon spawn based on the same data that governed how much 'XM' an area had/has in Ingress. XM density for an area was, apparently, determined by some sort of usage stat of google services tied to a location. So area...

Double post because I didn't see PLs until after I made mine. you don't get to fucking decide how much work someone else does on their pet project. Oh fuck right off with that argument. This is pointless anyway, since I'm demonstrably not doing it the way that 3e is. Since I've already described two different ways of dealing with racial classes (one for Half Fiends and Dragons, and one for transformational Races like Vampires/Liches) and neither one of them is the way 3e did it. I...

So yeah. All the confirmation we need that Kaelik's genius plan to lure players into his new game with exciting new options is... "fuck you if you freely want to combine race and class, it's too hard and I DON'T WANNA!" In the end I DO think that vampire sorcerers SHOULD be equally viable...

If you want to expand character options, or offer some subset of character options, in a way that doesn't prevent you from taking other types of options, the answer would seem to be that you would create another type of resource that players could spend when making and improving characters. You've a...

I am certainly doing significant rewrites of the object system. One thing I'm considering is having hardness scale with thickness (capped of course), in addition to HP per thickness. But yes, I see what you mean about having different materials take different kinds of damage, a brief outline of com...

I have another question based on my own musings on fantasy heartbreakers. Since you're rewriting the system from scratch, how do you feel about the rules in 3e/3.5 for objects (hardness, etc)? They become largely meaningless at higher levels, but I've always found them to be lacking enough informati...

If you are going to have any ability damage or penalties at all, the 2 for 1 and base 10 (that's also a similar thing carried over, if you weren't going to have ability damage, there is no reason to not just start at 0 and go up all as positive bonuses) both serve a purpose. 10 base allows ability ...

I see that you're reworking ability scores (two physical and two mental), which I like. My question is though, why did you stick with the 2 points equaling a +1 modifier formula? I always thought this was one of those bits of 3e/3.5 that was just a weird holdover from previous editions so that the a...

I was pretty lucky that the group that I occasionally now game with were complete neophytes when I introduced them, and I started off with a bunch of Tome material. The kicker was that, by this point in time, I could print out a stack of material and hand it to them and say "we're using the cla...

I like the gitbooks format, I'm actually glad to see the tome move away from latex. Also, I might look into giving the Kappa the ability to use their natural shell as the Kappa Shell shield, and to be able have it enchanted just like a shield. Otherwise you might have the unintended, though hilariou...

There are indeed some prestige class .tex files made for the old awesome tome that did not get included in the 'final' version of the pdf, but could be included easily. Some of them never received edits to fit with the style of the other classes (appending 'ex', 'su', etc to abilities), some of them...

Patton Oswalts take on the GOP candidates as D&D characters, spoilered because it's only technically an image, and more of a screen capture.

I decided to write up one event for each skill that are available to the players. I wanted to begin defining how the players interact with the metagame surrounding matches before doing the same for the GM.

Haven't implemented any of the changes discussed in my last post yet.
