Re: Star Wars: Saga Edition
Yes, the whole point of getting Dastardly Strike is for the stacking effect. It's also for the fact there is no range limit on its use, so if I can open combat from a far distance (giving even more bonuses on Stealth), people go down faster (or at least harder). Since I don't have alot of ranged opt...

Re: Star Wars: Saga Edition
I can agree that the Scout level is probably not the best of ideas (because I saw that 5 levels of scout can turn partial concealment to total concealment), so I'll admit that as a possible mistake. Even then, getting a free reroll for an important class skill is more than +1d3 damage. I was shootin...

Re: Star Wars: Saga Edition
Once again, read my second paragraph in my last response. I agree that sneak attack isn't really worth it, but the concept of a sneaky high-damage type remains.

Re: Star Wars: Saga Edition
Yes, a lightsaber ignores DR, which nothing really gets unless you want to go sunder-happy.[br][br]I never said that sneak attack was somehow an alright talent and not a weak one. I simply said that you could roughly create the same effect, as long as you acknowledge the fact sneak attack is less th...

Re: Star Wars: Saga Edition
They bother with HP still because not every attack actually moves you down the track, and you can spend three consecutive swift actions to go up one step on the condition track. Note, these consecutive can either be one swift action each round for three rounds, or you can convert your move & sta...

Re: Star Wars: Saga Edition
My bad, I meant (level + Con mod). That 3d8 is a bare minimum, and goes to 3d8+2 at strength 14, and you get another +1 every two levels after that. This doesn't even count feats or having higher than Str 14.

Re: Star Wars: Saga Edition
I don't know if it's the system 'failing' to deliver, when the designers don't want an archetype that does drastically more damage simply because their target is flanked. While you can do a fair amount of damage with a few builds, they actively want combat to last awhile if you're going against an e...

Re: Star Wars: Saga Edition
Meh, if you take the right feats, you can get two attacks with both having a -5 to-hit. This is best for stuff you can hit easily to begin with.[br][br]I do have to agree, their sneak attack change leaves something to be desired. Though I suppose if they have the paradigm of -2 to-hit being equal to...

Re: Star Wars: Saga Edition
Confirmation rolls for criticals were removed, so you automatically hit and do double damage on a natural 20. There's a grand total of one feat for increasing the multiplier and one talent to increase the threat range by one (that talent is a Jedi master thing for lightsabers), and the increased thr...

Re: Star Wars: Saga Edition
When the range between skill & defense bonuses is less than 10 points until level 20, you don't have to worry about this 'scaling' issue for the majority of your gaming. It's not like you ever go off the RNG from each other.[br][br]It's been stated before that the designers don't want you to aut...

Re: Star Wars: Saga Edition
There's a review concerning that particular house rule for Unearthed Arcana somewhere on these forums; and I believe the consensus was that the intended amounts they give were paltry at best compared to what you lose.[br][br]I read through most of the book, Saga, and I have the impression that if yo...

Heh, I'm sure that could've come off as confusing.[br][br]h = Planck's constant (technically half of the constant, but you get the idea)[br]p = momentum (mass * velocity)[br]x = position[br][br]The change in momentum & position can't be measured so precisely, that their product (Δx * &a...

Re: NPC classes
Why should HD/CR/CL be tied into one whole? I don't recall the system really intending that to be the case, and saying it should is like saying that spells shouldn't increase exponentially in power; it might be a good idea, but the entire system is based on that not being the case.

What ways are there, other than the Candle of Invocation and Use Magic Device, to increase your caster level?[br][br]And I think it might be a bit of a challenge. I'm curious to hear your opinion on the upcoming Star Wars revision to their d20 rules. There are some previews going on, 5 sneak peaks so far (with a little bit from their Jedi Counseling too). Here is where you can see the most recent stuff.[br][br]I played a little bit of the 'normal' d20 SW stuf...

And I bet he betrayed her something fierce, especially knowing Loki, so why would Hel have any particular loyalty to him by this point?

Re: Betrayal in a setting...
Just letting followers of Loki go to his realm of reward is counter to my entire point in this exercise. Right now, that line of thought makes ALL morality ultimately pointless, because you can just worship whichever god accepts your actions and get rewarded. I want some kind of truly objective line...

Reading your thing a bit more in-depth, I apologize for sounding snarky at you Catharz. I was more directing it at Judging_Eagle to begin with.[br][br]Yours is actually an interesting idea/variant and still dealing with a Planescape-like cosmology, just not quite what I'm looking for as the setting ...

I am fully aware of how the current cosmology works (major Planescape fan), so reiterating what I know doesn't really help me. I admit I might have rambled a bit there.[br][br]I'm contemplating making my setting's cosmology such that betrayal sends you to an afterlife of punishment, and your 'heaven...

Betrayal in a setting...
I'm contemplating making a bit of variance in my campaign setting. 'Hell' doesn't really work in your standard D&D setting when there are actual gods of evil that will reward you for being evil, so I was trying to think of a way to still have an area of punishment and still allow for warring fai...

Re: Sigh, D&D and what it can't do.
D&D's standards are closer to modern fantasy in structure, where you can find all sorts of examples of groups. The Dark Tower series, any number of LotR fantasy rip-offs, Wheel of Time, Ringworld (sci-fi, but still), etc.[br][br]As for prior mythological situations of groups of people, Josh ment...

Depending on your DM, you should consider the fact that you're just now able to enter the Wish economy, where such a fact will make tremendous differences as to what you can do.

Re: Iron Heroes?
First of all, the magic system has been admitted by the creator as being less than polished because he literally ran off part way through (WotC hired him for bucko bucks it seems) so he never had time to really think about the magic system. Second, he intentionally made evocation stink so nobody wou...
