I guess you're thinking of actions that can counter other actions, like the stack in Magic The Gathering. That's one element of it, but this system is meant to be very informal. It would be interesting if you could adapt it to cards, though.sigma999 wrote:This might work best as a card game.

Plot Devices The above instructions have dealt only with what is likely or expected. Sometimes, that's not enough. Sometimes, an unlikely thing must happen for the good of the story. For example, Captain Gallant Main Protagonist has been tied to a chair by Mr. Lowlife Scum, Esq. Mr. Scum has just i...

Collaborative Storytelling System
This post describes a general system for collaborative storytelling with elements of roleplaying. It is compatible with many different story settings. An Action Log lists the actions for the story in the order they began. Each line of an Action Log looks like this: Action Number | Action Name | Expe...

Well, you've got the THAC0 problem. Instead of rolling d10 and comparing it to 6 - A, where A is Quickness - Dodge, you should add 6 to Dodge and compare d10 + Quickness to Dodge. You mean, add 6 to all the defensive stats? If I did that then it would seem harder to compare the stats. The way it is...

I would say add some numbers and examples. If it works and is simpler than 3.5, I'd be inclined to use it. Otherwise not so much. I have updated my first post with more information. At the end you can see example stats for our Knight, Rogue, and Giant. My goal is for it to be reasonably simple, but...

Yeah the broadsword is only a couple pounds, but every pound counts when it has leverage on the end of your arm. How about 50 pounds of armor? Imagine how encumbered you would be if you were wearing a 50 pound backpack (five supermarket sacks of potatos). A knight would be more agile than that due t...

I think that I start tossing acid flasks and poison gases, because none of your defenses stop them. Powerful weapons, provided you can afford them. Armor could mitigate damage from such things because it reduces exposed skin area, though it wouldn't prevent lung damage. Poison takes some time to wo...

Dodge Block Armor
This describes a combat system based around Dodge, Block, and Armor. OVERVIEW Generally speaking, there are 3 stages to stopping an attack. An attack may be dodged, unless the attack is too quick to dodge or unless the attack affects an area too large to get out of in time. An attack may be blocked,...

Add the difference (A - B), which is 3 in this case, to the total of 3d12.Ikeren wrote:Don't you mean subtract the difference? At least you don't have to actually add A and then subtract B. You can determine (A - B) at a glance usually (quick what's 16 - 13) and just add the difference.

From what I've read (up to Combat, then skimming), this seems like kind of an odd mix of crunchy and MTP. I mean, the core of the system is literally GM fiat to the extent of determining whether a PC has or doesn't have key skills at the moment they're called for. But OTOH, there's these very detai...

Contest System
WORK IN PROGRESS Please excuse the formatting The "Contest" system is a system for role playing gaming. Every action is a contest that pits one stat against another. Each contest has multiple possible results depending on which stat wins and how decisively it wins. \/\/\/\/\/\/\PHILOSOPHY/...
