Maybe make dodge a situational pool, then? I like the idea of having dodge subtract from attackers to-hit, but it might be fiddly in actual play. Though I don't think that keeping track of an additional modifier is that bad - but YMMV. If people think that's too annoying though I'll think of somethi...

Usually this is the point where I just go with the stabby, but let's try to get the robot actually onto the point of the whole shebang. I feel he's just going to keep trying to push the middle-school level existentialism, though, but we may as well give it a shot.

So writing all of this lore and shit has been tons'o'fun, and even conceptually helpful (I still have no idea what to do with the arcane non-caster), but at some point this should be a game. It's not like I don't just freeform, but I do like playing actual games as well, yanno? So that means we need...

I really wanna see if our intrepid Space Assassin can faux-philosophise as well as Leo, but I feel the safer move is to stick to the truth and go with 'You're completely batshit.' As that's not a choice, we should probably say we've got no idea. (I'd love to see what sort of answer we hazard though,...

But before I do that, I should probably do something about races. I wanna keep it manageable for now, so we'll just go with the 12 races in Eberron core. Human, elf, half elf, magic robot, not-really-a-werewolf, blahblahblah. Now, do I want the races to have some sort of mechanical influence? I mean...

So, there's that. Which seems like a good place to start fleshing out some of classes, and determining how I'm going to have alternate class features for the different chassis.

Divine Magic The Silver Flame cleanses impurity with the righteous fires of morality. That’s why I’m paying you to set my loins on fire and suck the impurity out, child.[/b] Divine magic has always gotten the short end of the stick. On one hand, no angel or demon has ever given a straight answer on...

Daelkyr half-bloods are in Magic of Eberron, and the Silver Flame stuff (I dun really know about weird) is in Core.

(Ignoring Dragonmarks for now.) Magitek If the Gods didn't want us building WMDs, they wouldn't have given us portable magic batteries. Obviously. In Eberron, magic is industry. Magic is science. Magic is technology. Magic power every aspect of life, and permeates every part of existence. Not everyo...

Damn, I really want to do that. But...something feels like their should be a divide. A Chemist shouldn't just be a re-flavoured Physicist (even though he totally is), and a biologist shouldn't be a re-flavoured Chemist (even though he totally is.) Or something. This'll need more thought and totally ...

So once again, Voss - if you prefer playing Friendship is Magic, that's your thing. But casting your personal mores as an objective ruleset to claim that parts of a fictional setting in which you play murder-hobos that kill and loot for cash and blowjobs is somehow inherently offensive...is fucking ...

I agree on the dragonmark side, Parth. What I'm looking at for Dragonmarked Heirs (or Sorcerers or whatever) is a very limited set of spells lines - based around their Mark, of course, but with the added benefit of having more of them to use and allowing them to be affected by some sort of metamagic...

Valenar elves have a pretty sucky shtick, namely - Fantasy Elf Mongol Raiders Who Use Speshul Double-Bladed Swords on Horseback. They should probably die in a fire or something, maybe I'll just have a shitty NPC class that someone could play if they really wanna suck. The fluff says 'They're the mos...

At this stage, I'm not even sure I want to keep 3.5 style classes. It'd make my job easier, of course but I think rebuilding shit from the ground up is probably the better bet. Clerics should still exist, so do druids as they're both integral parts of the setting (conceptually, not the actual 3.5e c...

Actually, I think I have a good reason why Dragonmarks lead to monopolies - Dragonmarks give abilities that can't otherwise be replicated by arcane or divine or psionic magic. So shit like fabricate is what you get from a Greater Mark of Making, and shit is teleport is what you get from a Greater Ma...

Seriously, Voss, are you honestly trying to take moral offense at a fucking fictional published setting? What the fuck do you think succubi do in Core DnD? Politely ask if you'd be willing to sleep with them, or mindfuck you into a willing sex slave whose soul is then traded for in Baator? Do you ha...

To be fair, AH, the only reason Merrix (one of the Cannith head honchos who controls pretty much the only known creation forge) isn't churning out warforged slaves is because the Treaty of Thronehold gave them civil rights and there are power figures that give a fuck about enforcing that. He totally...

Could you possibly break it down so that Magitech noncasters are Extreme Explorers (you'd have to fluff some of their exploration abilities to be from magical tech, of course) and Divine noncasters are Master Inquisitives? As you noted, you don't have to have Cleric and Paladin be distinct. I could...

Well, the genre, loosely speaking that I want to represent is good old fashioned cinematic heroic pulp. Noir, too, but combat shouldn't be quite that lethal, I think. You're still gonna be fighting DnD monsters at some point, after all, so an SR style combat system where the goal is 'drop the opposi...

Actually, that gives me an idea for schema. Instead of being shitty reusable 1/day scrolls, what if they allow artificers and magewrights the ability to used an etched Dragonmarked ability? So a Cannith artificer could have etched fabricate onto a minor schema for his non-dragonmarked House magewrig...

Okay, let me see if I can put down a more cohesive class structure now. Dragonmark caster = Dragonmarked Scion Dragonmark noncaster = Dragonmarked Scion There are twelve houses, with some marks contributing more to one role than the other. I'll get there. Magitech caster = Artificer Magitech noncast...
