Thugs wander in with 32 hp, two melee attacks per round, and gain advantage from allies being with 5' of an enemy. Scouts have half the HP, but can multiattack with longbows (ie, from off the battlemat). Wow. The CR 1 or less pool is lousy with piranhas! It's a wonder murder hobos exist at all when...

As for magic sword and magic shield (or 3 ever!)... uh, no. 5e has a shitload of magic items, and while attunement limits some things, it doesn't have any impact on basic +1 or +3 weapons or armor, [...] I didn't know that "basic" magic weapons and armor don't count against the attunement...

Mind elaborating a bit on the warriors? I vaguely remember high level monsters being disappointingly boring sacks of shit that could be owned trivially by a necromancer or a diviner. "Don't melee it stupid," is alive and well. If you don't have very high AC or damage resistance (both is p...

Vraska seems like a potential threat to my old eyes. However, there are so many explosive combo decks in modern Magic, I don't think expecting to live more than 7 turns is realistic. If you could ramp her out, then she's a much bigger problem (and Green / Black can both ramp, so that's nice). That r...

What color is a drow's skin, anyway? I remember in their early Greyhawk appearances they were "olive-skinned" but in every illustration I've ever seen they're purple. The old school pictures I've looked at would give them either full purple skin or black skin with purple accents/outlines....

Or you could just do the my hero academia thing: Everyone has a power ( but not all powers are good for hero work ) and "hero" is just another kind of civil servant like fireman or police officer. Can you imagine my girl Ashido Mina working a desk job! http://orig00.deviantart.net/60b0/f/...

Yeah I really never intended to imply that I was looking for stuff specifically from D20 iterations. I am just interested in good ideas. My Encumbrance idea came from survival computer games, not from any tabletop game I've played. Excellent. Two subsystems I am fond of are the Scion stunt system a...

Re: Useful 3rd Party Subsystems

I'll be posting a little encumbrance idea I've been playing around with on here probably today or tomorrow, inspired by the discussion on Stealth in another thread. It reminded me that I was, for a while, looking to mine interesting ideas from things people have fiddled with for 3rd/pathfinder. I d...

3rd edition really did bring in the ECL experiment and that was a terrible idea that went nowhere. But the plans that came before and after weren't really any better. The 2nd edition and 4th edition plans were exactly the same: We'll make some large number of arbitrary races that you can play at fi...

Ghostdammit. You dick. You made me read 4e once again, and for what? All that is contained in that section is a list of humanoid monsters, most of which are ECL 0 in 3e and the rest are nerfed to the point that they are essentially ECL 0. They did not provide rules for monster creation as PCs, they...

Where were the "Monsters as Races" rules in 4e? Monster Manual 1, pp. 276-279. The inanity of your argument nearly gave me vertigo. You openly admit that the 3rd edition method for making a monster PC is "utterly shitty," but still claim superiority to 4th edition's solution of ...

Man, if only it were possible before 4th edition to be able to flavor one thing as actually being another thing! It's good that 4E invented the idea of re-flavoring things (because let's face it, you fucking have to, and most of the classes, powers and races are indeed just the same stats with some...

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned races yet. I have liked the drow since I discovered the Drowtales comic, http://www.drowtales.com/ which was before I learned that they got their name from D&D and were roughly inspired by Norse mythology. But god forbid you dared to suggest that you might...

I know even less about TTRPGs, but I would like to kindly point out that He-Man and Transformers are poorly animated toy commercials cartoons, not video games. And with that bit of pedantry out of the way, I will cease. Right you are! You could also say that MTG and most CCGs (these days) have an o...

Castlevania/Tsukihime Setting (with a 5e bouillon cube)

The Document http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=86901113404901362735 Good morning fellow carpers. I have been scratching away at a Castlevania-esque campaign in my spare time.
