I think you could make it a spell. "Clash of Fates" or something. When a caster casts it on a caster who also knows the spell, they get transported to an abstract pocket realm where they can engage in a 24 hour session of Wizard Danmaku without 24 hours passing in real time, or them runnin...

I like the Necromunda system because it's more evocative to say your LMG support gunner shoots "a spray of bullets" than "X bullets", where X is an explicit integer. It makes it feel more like a firefight if, when the adrenaline's pumping, you might squeeze the trigger for longer...

Do genestolen orks produce hybrids from their spores? That would be bad news if you intended to simply mop up the victor.

I'd be especially wary of Coatls if there was one of those Judge Dredd type Paladins in my group, screaming I AM THE LAW while attacking neutral druids and such, who've opened the door for "creative" interpretations of Lawful Good.

I had the impression that the Tau were designed to carter to the US children, who would rather play "good guys" rather than space nazis, and whose parents would be more likely to buy them mechas rather than brutal looking minis with pagan religious symbols. Hey, that's not fair. Erwin Rom...

It's kind of a weird darkening, too. Sterilization programs, brainwashing, death camps, etc - these are things that actually happen, so its not unreasonable that the Tau might end up doing them, especially when they're trying to draw parallels with the Cold War. So this is to drive home the point th...

I used to think the Tau were pretty weeaboo, but I came to realize that's the point. They are the light that illuminates just how oppressive the gloom is. They show that there are problems with the galaxy that go beyond "monsters exist IRL", about how mankind is the real monster, yadda yad...

I just mean to say, being so wholly dependent on something you live in fear of and treat as religious anathema is not a sustainable lifestyle.

Either you have to let the hive worlds starve, or you need go and make the Warp your bitch, and let the human species evolve to do so if it has to.

Hive worlds turn once-beautiful planets into big ugly messes of human coral. Maybe if they weren't being fed by whole other planets, they could start realizing that science is a good thing, and might be put to use doing basic things, like keeping the populace from starving. It's a major given that t...

Went with Shroud of Aeons. I like that it's immediately evocative, before I've actually read any lore, or learned Klingon, but its less explicit than Modify Memory or Cloud Memory, and thus retains a bit of wonder to it. It also reminds me of some of my favorite spell names that are actually terribl...

The biggest problem though, is "You wear them" abstraction. You can't play a genius strategist who isn't that good with a sword, because your army is your equipment, and you fight with your Melee or Martial Arts skill, not with your War skill. Seems like a good fix would be to let two PCs...

Crusader Kings is something I feel you can roleplay very well in, and the combat there is a very abstract mass combat system. All my friends love to talk about how cool it would be to be a CK2 guy in D&D. The trouble I find is making that into an interesting game where you play a standard TTRPG ...

Well, I wouldn't call any of those characters liches in the archetypal sense, but sure! Good! Bring 'em on. The whole idea is to get rid of all the bullshit old "Wizards are the Master Race" memes. One of the things that gets advocated here sometimes that I like is epic class changes that...

Arthas is a paladin though. I mean after he breaks the top of the Frozen Throne and inherits Ner'zhul's knowledge as a former shaman and agent of the Burning Legion. Thus, granting him all the proper lichy schticks like necromancy, commanding vast legions of the undead, being difficult to permanent...

Speaking of of open world games, stuff where you're trying to 100% mission completion and getting all the hidden doodads, vs something where you're using the open world as a means to the end Star Control 2 is a classic example of open world done right, where the point of exploring the galaxy is to g...

There are plenty of valid fightin' precedents for liches. Arthas, Skull Knight, Lord Soth, etc. Not that fighterbaters want any cool options that aren't DM patronage and roleplaying things to death.

Scavenger hunt crafting systems, I hate running around collecting stuff. Especially in WoW ripoffs where you have to mass produce crap that you won't ever use.

I prefer Monster Hunter style where you kill a boss and you get items that are made out of said boss, all straightforward.

OD&D had some weird design choices if it was supposed to be a wargame... like the Tomb of Horror's emphasis on DM telepathy, monsters that eat your brain if you put your ear against a door, etc. Seems like Pit Fiends and Red Dragons with interesting narrative abilities fit right in.

Maybe a stunt system that requires the action described to meet a challenge threshold. "I kick it down" would be a 1, and an unbarred wooden door would be a threshold of 1. You do not win points for prose if the action described is still "I kick it down" when deconstructed. You D...
