Cleric Death domain is an evil-only PC option in DMG, requiring explicit GM's approval. Kelemvor and Wee Jas are both Lawful Neutral. Bite my shiny metal ass, 5e. The DMG doesn't seem to agree with itself on whether the Death domain is evil-only. On the one hand, it says The Death Domain is an addi...

So you believe that "the 5th" with it's signature new mechanic Adv/Dis was meant to be used by rolling a d20 two at a time, but they decided to give new players just one d20. It's always possible that the boys and girls working at wotc are that stupid, and didn't make sure to include anot...

I'm not sure I follow. If I know my total bonus is +17, I'm not going to forget that my bonus was +17 just because I added it to die roll. In practice, I think this is easier to mess up in practice then it seems at first glance. Your bonus on your attack roll depends on what buffs are currently on ...

hamstertamer wrote:Interesting though that the new starter kit comes with only one d20. So the game designers had a base assumption that people would using a adv/dis as a re-roll mechanic, and that rolling twice at once was optional.
You should win some sort of award for how terrible this reasoning is.

Early in the game, after the Fighter watches the Bard/Rogue chuck a brace of daggers at multiple targets and get Sneak Attack off on both with it's resultant pile of damage, he exclaims: How did the bard/rogue get sneak attack against multiple targets in one turn? The rules for sneak attack explici...

LOL! 5e's PHB has "Appendix E" which is like the old Appendix N. For inspirational reading. Okay, that's a nice idea. BUT WTF IS THIS...? Robert Jordan? "Eye of teh World" and the rest of the Wheel of Time series? Oh yeah, how inspiring. I've always wanted to play an RPG where n...

Where did you find these statblocks? Looking at the NPCs from the basic rules, the CR 2 priest with 5th level casting has 5d8+5 HD and only 16 Wisdom.

It was actually one of the best books they have put out, IMO. It's a great reference book for important game related stuff. Tables full of items from multiple sources collected in one place is useful. If only there was some way to do this without releasing a new book for $40... Compared to the Mons...

It seems that the ACG kinda-sorta brought back the flask rogue to PF with the Underground Chemist: Chemical Weapons (Ex): At 2nd level, an underground chemist is able to retrieve an alchemical item as if drawing a weapon. She adds her Intelligence modifier to damage dealt with splash weapons, inclu...

It has been clear that they've been doing the splatbook treadmill thing for a long time now; they've committed to producing two thick hardcover rulebooks each year whether they have anything to fill them with or not. What? Are you telling me Ultimate Equipment was a completely unnecessary rulebook ...

If someone is in a diplomatic game with little focus on combat, they will place more value on skill points and think classes without those are underpowered. By contrast, someone in a combat only game will think skillpoints are negligible and focus solely on the combat power of classes. Sure, but in...

On the plus side for drow, their bonuses are sufficiently mediocre that you can drop the light sensitivity thing and immediately make them a playable, not over-powered PC race. Well, that's a plus insofar as being able to easily houserule away stupid ideas is a plus.

Pathfinder adventure paths have a terrible habit of making the plot details that tie the campaign together visible only to the DM. Kingmaker is a blatant example of this. From the DM's perspective, the end of the second book is an agent of the BBEG harassing the party while the BBEG stays out of sig...

D&D 4E had some sort of extensive waste of space in the DMG that was along the lines of "Offensive Inaccurate Gamer Stereotypes, how to inaccurately categorize your friends, how to mistreat them appropriately, and what names to call them when it causes your game to fall apart!" This s...
