Re: Easy, Simple Classes (need cleric architype)

I know this might seem like a stupid question but is there no major issue with this guy getting multiple 9th level spells uses at 10th? I know you guys never heal in combat so all it really does is save on wands of cure whatever; but that is no small thing when everyone just got blasted by some seri...

Re: Spell lists for everyone!

Well I suppose giving fighters cool strikes like slow and other status effects could work (frightning presence and the like) as long as it seems to be part of the fighter theme. I don't see how throwing up stone walls falls into that category. If that becomes essential to do than we're not playing f...

Re: Spell lists for everyone!

I guess I've got the problem of having a vision of what I want D&d to be rather than what it can become. I want the fighter to pull more cool tricks out of his ass than he has now but how do you balance that against the ball bustingness of wizrds. Flavour is as important as mechanics and dimensi...

Re: Spell lists for everyone!

Really I just looked through the spell lists using EMA's spell lists and looked at the summary not the fine print so some could be gash. Not really considered a prefered mechanic though I suppose the 9swords approach could work as well as any other. [br][br]Problem I found in 9swords was none of the...

Spells are basically special abilities. Have lists of special abilities preferrably several; that characters can choose can which balanced abilities they want to follow

Re: All games are breakable. Help me.

Not seen the new gurps but I found 3rd-ed worked well for fantasy but was a bit too brutal in modern and crazy in Future. Gurps fantasy setting was kind of fun.[br][br]d6 was great for star wars but, as Rob pointed out, without feats and other swag for anyone but jedis to get some characters might g...

Re: enjoying a game dispite it's flaws?

In Prak's defense, it's amazing how many people aren't playing that way despite how blatantly obvious it can be. The guys I'm playing with are mainly throwing fireballs around and stabbing people rather than save or sucking/dieing. even at 18th level, and our fighters have been keeping up; in part b...

Re: Bards?

As for having swim on the list - I just left the bard skill selection alone. Also, the class is supposed to represent people like Giacamo from The Court Jester - and I'm pretty sure he could swim if he wants to. And lastly of course, the class eventually learns Sirine's Grace if it wants, so having...

i enjoy the game despite its flaws but only because no one I play with have taken it quite to the level of stupidity which people here have found possible. But it has been blatantly obvoius that it is truly damaged and needs to be fixed. While impressed by Frank and K's work (which drew me to this b...

Re: Maxing out spell DCs

Well a bit too late unless I can convince the DM to let me reshuffle my feats; which, considering I would be doing it to min-max on him, would likely not fly. That's ok, its a bit too extreme though I wish I could just throw up all my bloody buffs at once. It would cost a fortune in cash and time to...

The problem to using DnD races to emulate real world history is your choice in race is directly going to be attributed to a defacto commentary on real life cultures. So if your going that root, gnomes are your bankers (gnomes of zurich anyone?) squat with big noses and globally hated by everyone who...

An ESL teacher in Saigon Vietnam. Some of my group want to found a Vietnamese Live Action Vampire game so they can be national directors and cheese their characters to the hilt and then go home and trottle all the munchkins who ruined their game in England. Ah the power of abusing the system.

Maxing out spell DCs

I imagine this might be covered somewhere else but what are all the good tricks to pimping out my spell DCs. Right I was hoping for a clearly defined ability like "sneak and run at the same time" so we could make a list that people could use to thump out feats/spells/abilities/whatevers that fit the bill. This would sort of give us a checklist of things to try to make work so we don't need to dep...

Re: Healers in fiction

Of course with most modern fantasy it is hard to say what came first, healers in fantasy which inspires RPGs or writers who were inspired by RPGs. R Jordan makes it pretty clear that the Wheel of Time is the chronicles of his RP sessions. And I imagine Feist and Eddings are much the same. Both read ...
