Additional issues Rasumichin did not mention yet. The DSA 5 basic rules also lack the rules for at least 2 common DSA magic user types (Druids and Schelmen). On top of that DSA player characters are clearly strongly tied to a specific setting. And the 5th edition basic book provides only the bare mi...

Dear Rasumichin,

I basically agree with you. There is a reason that I (as Korwin pointed out) say it SOUNDS awesome and not that it IS awesome.

DSA 5, it's like Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay except everything on the player character side is covered in romantic quaintness instead of shit. You know what, that actually sounds like a very good game. So you roll in chargen to deterimne your anal circumference, sexual preferences and fragility of y...

The next big (?) releases in rpg land are: -A new edition of Rolemaster :bricks: -The Dark Eye, not a peep about this from the publisher Ulisses since august and although the finished product is a clear improvement* on the Beta, it still is a very standard fantasy rpg. Worse it is still DSA and it i...

I suspect that the biggest problems 5e has will never be noticed at most tables. The Dragonborn race not mixing well with the dragon sorcerer bloodline. The Charlatan background benefit doing something that is, or is not part of the forgery kit proficiency? Everybody wants to play an 1/2elf, except ...

In 3e D&D, anything that gets separated from your body reverts to its original form. This means very importantly D&D polymorph doesn't change how you smell . -Username17 In defense of the idiots of this world. Realizing and remembering this sort of detail at the right moment mixed in with a...

Don't worry Momo,
I understood. It is just that I found picking up basic GURPS expertise easy. But I gave up on "if it's written in the book, it's law", relatively early in my gaming career.

Seriously, GURPS is easy as long as you realize that less is more. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement. Well, I'm not exactly a GURPS enthusiast. But GURPS having options for everything so that you can make very precise choices to match the needs of a particular campaign is one of the games ma...

If everyone has a pretty solid idea of what they're doing, GURPS works pretty well in my experience. If most people are ok with it and the GM is really solid, it can take a couple newbies. Then you have my friend, who knew I liked it, so while I was out of state at school he bought the corebooks an...

Why does GURPS seem to have such a bad reputation online? Any time I've played it, either with people over the internet or in person, it's run smoothly and been a good time. A good GURPS campaign starts with the GM working out which parts of the rules set he is going to use this time. That does not...

First of all, I like the Harlot table, as an amusing bit of filler. I would actually be defending it, except I've never used it. Not even ironically. And I suspect I have never in my 30+ years of gaming met anybody who did. As for Rolemaster. Those critical hit tables are fine. I suspect that a game...

New Rolemaster Beta

A new version of Rolemaster is going through a public beta test, with very litle fanfare. http://ironcrown.com/rolemaster/rolemaster/ Rolemaster used to be a big deal. Outside of Iron Crown's own forum, it seems to have gotten even less attention than Das Schwarze Auge trying for another English lan...

Shlominus I think they made minor improvements to the beta test and left it at that. And when I say minor improvements, I mean stuff that looks elegant in isolation, but is to complex to use on the spur of the moment in a run of the mill game. Unless they simplified the skill rules by having each sk...

I really hope this is game is good. We probably need a Pathfinder killer and move the fuck on from DnD. As good as 3.5 was in it's elegance and splendor. Oh wells. As you can read in the posts below yours, this game is unlikely to be the Pathfinder killer you long for. And this is sad, because if D...

If the contents lived up to the covers, DSA would be the greatest fantasy rpg ever.

A classic example of something that might have worked as a novel, but never as a rpg adventure.

Malak What you played is DSA 4th edition. And you either played a jester style entertainer with a little bit of magic, or a Schelm, with a (for them) embarrassing magic shortage. A Schelm in DSA is a person kidnapped by Kobolds as a young child and than raised by them. A thing with Schelme is that t...

So we are talking about a very traditional German rpg in existance since the mid-80's.

So you chime in with a post stating that it is a Swedish game and you speculate about it being influenced by Apocalypse World.

I do not know what to say.
