I think the major issues would be with converting a single-player game into a cooperative game, and, as you touched on, coming up with a second story to tell.

Although Ravenloft has done better than it has any right to, so what do I know?

I think there are a lot of Shadowrun (and other game) groups who would argue that the best is doing both.

Mr. Johnson summons some runners from the dead because they know where some black ops site is and how to break into it. THIS is one of the most argued about cases in Shadowrun. Lore says yes. I was in a 3.0 game where the GM encouraged us to use savage worlds rules or whatever (taking Level Adjustment as a class, where some features came online each level) to play monster characters. Even then, we realized the rules were dumb as hell, and it was going to take twice as long for your chara...

It's maddening. A friend of mine pulled the friend card to get me to play in his 5e game which I'd rejected multiple times and now having sat down and made a character I hate 5e more now than I did before. There is nothing in this game and the reasoning he has for liking 5e is the same 'less is mor...

I'm on the last episode of the first Bubblegum Crisis series. It's a pretty good show, especially for its age. But when someone zoomed in on a picture, they showed the zoomed-in image at a lower resolution, and didn't fix it by enhancing (because that isn't a thing). They actually injected realism i...

I'm not totally convinced that it's an "added" step, but merely the shuffling around of actions the players were going to do anyway. But perhaps bundling all those acts together are a new step and I just don't see it. In fact, here's what I do see: GM: Okay, you walk into a 10x10 foot roo...

The jokes are largely just regurgitated bits from previous Addams Family things, and when they're not, they basically contradict established Addams Family tropes. That reminds me of the 2008 Get Smart movie. A few of us watched through the series shortly before it came out, which made it more obvio...

Edge is problematic because its refresh mechanism is unclear and because its impact vary wildly depending on how many important dice rolls you have in your game. If you only have three important dice rolls in your game, you can edge them all and be guaranteed to succeed. If you have hundred of them...

Using it to bust Force caps and bind spirits that could solo the entire rest of the team combined far less desirable. Yeah exactly - another sorta exploit was to cast sustained spells at low force but Edge them for high results and little drain. I'm thinking of a houserule that Edge can't be used o...

There is a very real possibility that they think this is better. It also works as a metaphor for the gaming industry in general.

Most of what you said is reasonable, but now replace Superman with Dracula, and see if that is something you've heard before. It's probably too limiting to have a patient zero of superpowers.

Re: D&D Question about Good Gods

I posted this elsewhere, but this is the reason why I'm fond of Actraiser. The point was that you were an angel/god helping civilization thrive by going around and fighting the big monsters mere mortals could not hope to defeat on their own while engaging in Sims-style domain development. While it ...
