@ Elennsar: celestials One solution to RC's problem is to make the Dungeonomicon actually be the determiner of how the world works. Any fortress worthy of the name will be at least covered from overhead attacks. It's not even that hard, but it's not worth it when being on the wall at all protects yo...

The drow think they're entitled to rule the world because, for thousands of years, they thought they did rule the world, to the point where it became ingrained in their culture. Ever since they learned that the deserts and the oceans can be crossed, they have been on a campaign of conquest, but it d...

If I sit down and play a dwarven ranger and my friend plays an elven warrior in the same game, we need to be equally good at adventuring. Not at whatever is officially The Ranger Schtick, but my dwarven ranger and his elven ranger need to average out across the board. I don't care how it happens, at...

Dragons, angels, some aberrations, and most fiends are under CRed and should be put through an inverse same game test.

The option to be different from the stereotype is a good thing . The problem with Drizzt is the sheer amount of ripping off that occurs, not anything inherent in the original character. In your "perfect" world, all dwarves may be heavily armored, bearded axemen, but everyone else wants to ...

With a good rules setup, the slots system should work more like a Batcave than the Golf Bag. Also, by the time you actually can mass teleport to the Batcave, you should be doing scry-and-die or similar tactics, so gearing up will be done before the attack is launched.

The tone at GitP is very different from here. I write about the same way on both, but I'm one of the least offensive posters here. Your whole rant is mean, and other forums don't let you be mean. Dropping the last paragraph and rewriting the third with fewer exclamation points and cursing and no ins...

In most stories, the interesting part comes from the paradoxes and changing of the future, and you lose that if you remove it. How many time-travel stories have you read where no paradox comes into play and the main characters can't meaningfully change the future?

The problem with it is that HERO is designed for a different game than the one we are talking about in most threads on these boards. That system is brilliant for a superhero game, but in a game where you are awesome with an ordinary sword and even more asskicking with a magic sword, that mechanic do...

That same line of argument above applies to everything else ever. A minotaur with a single class level in anything would therefore be a Minotaur 4/Something Else 1, which is a level 5 character. All characters of equal level should be equally powerful. Therefore, a minotaur 4/something else 1 should...

Let me lay this out for you in simple terms. Basic minotaurs are supposed to be on an equal footing with level 4 characters. All characters of equal power should have an equal level Minotaurs must therefore be level 4 characters. What part of this logic do you not understand? Honestly, I disagree wi...

You're missing the fifth: all races are equal, but will fit a given class differently. This is by far the best option, but is an incredible pain in the ass to make work and may not actually be possible.

My opinion is that an elven ranger ought to have some elf things off a list and a dwarf ranger ought to have some dwarf things off a different list, but both should have a core set of ranger things plus some secondary ranger things. For example, in a Tome game, the dwarf would get better favored ene...

I'm not sure there is a good game mechanic for making magic items fair, balanced, mythologically/setting accurate and cool at the same time time. Three Phoenix Feathers works for low fantasy, epic fantasy, and mythology, but it does lead to problems when you start distributing consequences and assum...

Wizards: With Draconomicon I, let me ask this: why concentrate on the chromatics? When (and how) will we see support for their metallic brethren? BRC: Chromatics are the traditional "baddies" of dragon-dom. You've got your red, your black, your green, and so on. We wanted to get the 4E ta...

Another big factor is that psionics, unlike all the other new systems Wizards put out, is explicitly included in Eberron and is important enough to the setting that it is hard to ignore it or rewrite everything that uses it. The other books that could have been adopted into core (ToB, ToM, Incarnum)...

Having more powers at the same bonus level is going to allow characters to defeat more powerful challenges, but only to a point. It's probably a log or even asymptotic progression. For some games, it would make sense to constantly increase options without ever increasing the overall scale of the opp...

The Spirit of the Century aspect/fate point system does a good job of letting the DM and the player negotiate when and how traits like that are called into play. Also, it means that some things, particularly bloodlust, give logical pairings of detriment (you have to attack) and benefit (You are more...

The eldar have problems with chaos. In fact, the dark eldar do all their horrible things to appease Slaanesh, while the craftworld eldar are fleeing as fast as they can. You can argue that this is a successful strategy, but it really sucks when your sublight ships get out of the galaxy and you event...

Is beating up mortals going to be a binary or a leveled thing? If characters without the ability to beat up mortals are never going to face each other in melee, it could be a single binary ability or come free with being an angel or demon or with your first real melee power. It oculd also be a binar...
