Is this meant to support any character archetype or just Sisters of Battle? If it's just Adepta, then it suddenly becomes far easier to create and balance.

I'm talking about the basic plan of how brain eating works. The fact is, the illithid have put a hell of a lot more study into how to eat people's brains than anyone but the Gith has into figuring out how to stop them. It's not that they are unstoppable. It's that they have dealt with the avoiding r...

Illithid will be hated, but they can avoid being hated by anyone on their plane and anyone who knows where they are. The people who hate them are on other Primes and know nothing about illithid other than their appearance and powers.

The illithid don't do their brain eating in the Underdark anywhere, just in case. They're average is well up on the bell curve, and any flaw you can find in their basic plans was spotted and fixed millenia ago. Also, how do we know that they don't do their hunting on planes with no illithid settleme...

Currently, monsters get large single-source bonuses. PC warriors get small bonuses compared to their level. Basically, the monsters, who don't get to seek out sources and invest part of their power into them, get level-appropriate DR. PCs can only get the largest single bonus - either a 3/- from ada...

There is some fluff applied, but the mechanical effects aren't balanced for different characters. Fighters don't really need them, but Vulnerable is completely meaningless as a penalty. Wizards can afford to be poor in melee combat, since everything they do is either a touch attack, a ranged attack,...

Frank is saying B, with A on the side. Sometimes individual DR sources act as though they stack, others are explicitly stated not to stack, both appear in the core rules, and those same rules say DR never ever stacks with anything. Also, the way DR works screws 'mundane' characters even more, contri...

That really depends on which game of 40k you're playing and on the setting conception. Space Marines are playing something like d20 or TNE, probably with a title like Space Marines: a game of action, adventure, and asskicking in the dark world of the 41st millennium. Inquisition: the Heresy is a Whi...

I thought that the Star Child cult claimed that the Star Child was the Emperor reborn as a Warp Entity. Is that true in the older books or only in the third edition onwards?

Since the lich is looking for a zombie apocalypse or classic invasion scenario, the first thing he should do is scry-and-die all the WMDs. At this point, he launches his attack, but probably not with spawn-creating undead. Remember, his goal isn't to take over cleanly and efficiently, it's to have s...

I think that the invasion could go one of three ways. The lich pulls out all the teleport ambush, scry-and-die, and save-or-lose cheese he can find and takes the world in a coup. The lich gets almost completely screwed by modern armies as he tries to win with zombies. The battle comes down to DR and...

The question then becomes whether we want each type of animal locked in to a specific schtick or tigh...

It reduced the Magic Christmas Tree effect somewhat and set explicit guidelines for bonuses by level, making it easier for new players to know what they need at each level. If you try to make a horse into an epic dire horse, it turns into a lame closet troll with broken math. An epic dire horse is actually an entirely different monster with completely separate base stats from a heroic regular horse. This is the way it has always been in D&D, although 4e is so tanta...

I've been thinking in a Tome/3.5 context, where the only "setting" is that implied by the rules. In this context, minimizing the number of implicit setting decisions is important. Specifically, lions should have the same upper-level options as wolves, crocodiles, and kangaroos.

Monsters aren't supposed to be advanced more than 5 levels from base level. Also, there are other things scaling PCs' AC and attacks.

But yeah, that's dumb.
