Re: CR vs. ECL
I rather meant "If you give monsters wealth as PCs who have a level equivalent to their CR, then make ECL = CR. That way, anything is equal to itself. Precisely equal, even."[br][br]But anyway, I suppose you're right. Even though "Wish Economy" exists because it is so easy to do ...

Re: CR vs. ECL
Solution: Equip NPCs by their CR, except give them PC wealth per level. It's not like anyone cares that the PCs sometimes get extra loot for slapping them up, given the whole "Wish Economy" thing.[br][br]Suddenly, "but they (sometimes) have more gear!" can't even be an effective ...

1188062101[/unixtime]]Personally I don't care that much, though the doggish fits the giant pack mentality they have better than draconic does. [br][br]Oh, I just want a good-aligned excuse to kick puppies. Besides, it detracts from the whole "Kobolds = Dragons! Yeah!" thing, so that can't...

I'm actually tempted to put them into a game. They'll be right up there with the hugz-tiem Hamatula (in 2Ed, barbed devils had the "hug" special attack).

The Intelligent undead, yes, but I think the unintelligent undead it turns into very strange hug-monsters.

1187991460[/unixtime]]On the bright side, they also apparently sped things up hugely as far as Great Wyrms are concerned. I didn't see that dragon cast a single one of its 9th-level spells, which indicates that maybe they've dumped draconic innate spellcasting. [br][br]Well, it was only an Ancient....

I don't know, you do basically have to custom-build each one - they don't provide separate entries for each age category of each one (thank Loviatar, we don't need more MM pages wasted). Which does help them vary a little, but "Dynamic and Exciting" isn't what I'm thinking of.[br][br]And y...

I don't know it a lot do - I know plenty who can leave it at the door just fine. One of them is a priest and he can enjoy it without bringing his own world views in. But he did decline playing Demon once, simply because it'd remind him of work.

Re: CR vs. ECL
Simply put, they don't know what they're talking about. That's roughly the long and short of it. Others here, like Frank, K, Ceilingcat and many more, could go into greater depth. All I can say is "I've tried it as ECL = CR (give or take a point or two) and it worked. I've tried the hopeless EC...

I'm not worried about the spells that dragons originally had - they didn't have level-appropriate casting anyway. A few spells caused this to become annoying, like Wraithstrike, sure, but for the most part, they basically didn't see use.
But who knows what they have now?

Yeah, I first thought Leress meant they got something *right* and there was something awesome in 4Ed. Then realised "Wait, no, that's the [Awesome] subtype, for creatures that will kick your ass just because WotC/fanboys won't have it any other way."

Re: Being Good in D&D: this one's for you, K and Frank
Unfortunately, it just about has become necessary. On the grounds that so many people, when they picture Good in D&D, think "Well, I'm a Christian, and Christianity is Good, because the God of Christianity says so, and because he's Good he decides what is Good, and so my circular logic is G...

I still love dragons, I just don't love their implementation in D&D. Seriously, can't they just be a normal, solid challenge, and let the DM decide if they want a wandering monster, a lair monster, or a supreme overlord with hundreds of traps, illusions, minions and an entire economy that depend...

Good point with the "Lose XP" class feature. Though if you glue it to your shoulder and place a cloak over it so that only one eye is showing, enemies won't ever have a good reason to target it.[br][br]That being said, it's out by the books allowed, and still has a chance of randomly diein...

Are you sure Familiar is out of the question? There's a really sweet one in a FR book, the Eye Ball.
