Wait... what? Rituals are specifically designed to not be used in combat.RandomCasualty2 wrote:Hell you can even take ritual casting in 4E to get more options out of combat.

Granted, 3e and 4e both have things that need to be changed. However, it's always easier to tone down cheese than to make crap up. 3e is salvageable becuase the DM can essentially take an eraser to spell and ability descriptions, make a couple editing marks, and be done with it. 4e? Not so much. I d...

I never liked playing fighters because they were never interesting. I swing a sword. And that's it. I want be able to hack off limbs, cripple foes by slashing their legs, daze them with stunning strikes to the head with a gargantuan hammer that I shouldn't be able to use at my character size, or sup...

Re: The Grapple Wizard again
2.) What's the best way to terrorize a village by giving people exploding hugs? Suggestion from my GM: disguise as a different prostitute each day. Nah. Disguise as small children or cuddly pets. The people would flee like it was another plague. Hmmm... I'm seeing some extra uses for Polymorph, etc...

Well, the obvious answer is Protection from Arrows. 30 hp won't last very long, but you can combine it with a smokestick for a 50% miss chance. Also remember that ranged attacks have a 50% chance to hit the guy you are grappling. So you will have effectively like 10 times your normal hp. Depending ...

The Grapple Wizard again
So, I'm playing in an Evil 3.5 campaign (kind of cool in its own right), and I decided to be a "pro-wrestler" Wizard (i.e. the Grapple Wizard that Frank detailed a while back). So, a couple of questions: 1.) How do I avoid ranged characters effectively? I'm great at running up and giving p...

And immunity, well, is self-explanatory - either immunity to fire means you are completely immune to any effect by a fire ability (fire elementals are made of fire, more fire won't do anything except make them bigger, perhaps), or it is also numeric, and provides immunity to fire abilities of level...

Personally, I think that if there's a mundane task I'm capable of in real life, my Level 20 Wizard of Kickass should be able to at least do it halfway competently. For example, I can wildly swing a sword with more strength than accuracy (Power Attack) or kick some dirt into my opponent's face, then ...

Force would just be Physical, as would Ice attacks (NOT Cold!), anything made out of conjured stone or metal, or any Telekinetic effect that crushes an object. Likewise, one could call the Physical overgroup as Force. This would mean all weapons deal Force too. The main point of force damage was th...

What is up with the warlord? I understand what they were trying to go for with the class but it still doesn't seem very good. It seems like two fighters, a fighter and ranger, or a fighter and rogue would dish out way more hurt and control the battlefield better than a fighter and a warlord. They m...

I'm pretty sure the intent of the leveling process in MMOs is that of a giant tutorial that teaches you how to play the game and interact with people. Sadly, it lasts a bit too long in the one I play. Guild Wars had the nice option of skipping that and going straight to level 20, and WoW is sort of...

One of the biggest problems I have is that if you choose a class, you're stuck with one of the two archetypical character builds they've written powers for. My Inferlock isn't going to take Fey powers, because he will suck with them. Not only that, but I'm doomed to blow my wad of powers all over th...

I can't wait for the additional cookbooks to come out. They'll show us how to make the same thing with fewer ingredients in less time! It's probably because they need to keep sales up while they finish up the latest edition of The Joy of Cooking . I can't wait! Now I'll be able to make chicken parme...

All the pushing and sliding also does precisely dick when you can simply charge back in (getting a bonus to boot) and continue smacking someone over the head. If you could push someone back far enough where it actually mattered, it'd be a different story. But 2 squares isn't going to do anything whe...

Is it worth trying to fix 4e?
So, I'll be going back to school in a couple months, and my DM for the time wants to use 4e. So, since I want to play a controller that actually is a controller (not the current Wizard), is it worth it to make a new class? Or should I just resign myself to playing a different class? I've considered ...
