Re: Magic: the Gathering land/mana tapping mechanics for tabletop RPG's

There’s a 5E supplement on the dms guild called Tap Untap Burn which tries to convert casting to a 5 color m:tg mana system.

I didn’t find it compelling enough to change over, but it appears to be relevant to your interests.

Re: Let's Read - DaggerHeart RPG (New Critical Role RPG)

finished chapter 2, not chapter 3. Extremely disappointing to find out that the ONE method of interacting in the game, attacks and damages, is also an illusion, because you roll damage rolls that don't actually matter anyway. I mean I wasn't expecting much from the game, but still amazingly bad. I ...

Re: Let's Read - DaggerHeart RPG (New Critical Role RPG)

How I THOUGHT the fear/hope die mechanic worked is when you roll with fear, the GM CAN spend that on the spot to summon quantum bears, or they can bank their “fuck you” point for later. I actually liked this. But if the game expects the GM to do BOTH, that’s kind of bull shit. The thing that bugs me...

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered

They weren't quadrants, but more like 'elevation lines'. Like the area was generally sloping up, so the bottom left corner of the map was a zone, then there was a band that was zone 2, then a weirdly shaped y that made up zone 3, and the two other zones were 4 and 5. Something like that. I think th...

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered

Does it count is the choice is multiple light attacks vs one heavy attack? The former for dealing more damage, say to mooks or unarmoured opponents, and the latter to a more armoured one? But that means both are valid choices at different times, at a given time there's one one valid choice. I was t...

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered

Yeah, my system just says "if you have an aoe attack you can use it as an aoe and hit whatever you want (subject to other people's techniques) which for cultivation stuff works fine, but it comes with the territory of "not really caring how many kobolds you can get in the cone of cold.&qu...

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered

I think "do[ing] abstract movement well" depends a lot on what the system is trying to present or emulate. I have never seen "abstract positioning for a low level swords and sorcerer dungeon crawler" because the emulated genre or concept of the game sort of requires granulatiry....

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered

I’ve got TWO annoying game questions. 1) Are there any systems out there that do abstract movement WELL? That is to say, accounting not only for how far characters can move, but also things like area effects, environmental hazards, etc. 2) Are there any systems out there that do light V heavy attack...

I thought this movie was total trash. Bad dialogue, annoying tone, lame action, and too much "haha D&D is so silly" crap for zoomers.
Oh word? What was your least favorite scene?

Re: [Spellbound] Damage revised and other miscellanea

Why do you have negative values for Strength? a STR of 0 would be equivalent to STR 10 in 3e,5e etc, ie it is a +0 in various ways. I haven't made a explicit decision, but a -6 in a core stat (STR,DEX,SPR,MND) might incapacitate someone, but stat damage and drain isn't necessarily a popular mechani...

Re: How to Implement Save or Dies in a Balanced D&D System

Maybe I’ve been brain poisoned by too much Elden Ring, but you could just use condition tracks that build up over time, similar to the way that death, madness, frostbite, etc. work in that game. You wouldn’t even need to make a discrete track for every single unique condition, just make general trac...

Ah. So your cool plan is to keep calling me a nazi. No reason to continue talking then.

Re: Unfucking Dragonlance

Maybe I should write a magical fantasy setting with two ugly, aging, solipsist, flabby, shit-writing wizards that get punished by an angry mob of impoverished, genetically smoothbrain, cowardly dwarves that decided they have had enough maltreatment. Sounds more like a novella than a setting, but ye...

Does that mean you are going to get rid of colour coding dragons as being for one side of the other? And you've got legitimate political factions rather than good vs evil?
Yes.

Same with the tower of High Sorcery.

Re: Unfucking Dragonlance

I had a similar idea lately, only I’m going the route of using Dragonlance tropes as inspiration, jettisoning the plot of the novels and filing off the serial numbers. I like law vs. chaos over good vs. evil, so I’m going to lean on that for the cosmic stuff. I like the gods of Krynn being gone, so ...

Another project currently in progress is Level Up 5e , which promises crunchier rules and more rigor than standard 5e while keeping things simple. Yep, sounds contradictory to me, too, and I haven't followed it enough to really know what kind of nonsense is coming out there, but people have had thi...

Re: D&D 5e has failed

I don't think 6e is on WotC's mind right now, honestly. 5E officially dropped in like 2014(?); at this point in 3E's life cycle, they had already released a revised edition. I think they are quite content just sneaking rules revisions into Xanathars and Tashas rather than doing a straight-up 5.5. So...

Re: Shopping for a new system

Sounds like 13th Age to me. Definitely wouldn't recommend that game for most denners, but some of it hews pretty close to the things she's asking for: One Unique Thing, player-defined traits, icon relationships lean into the collaborative storytelling and roleplaying she wanted. 13th Age has a lot o...
