There is no better setting for Iron Heros than Hyperboria - the age Howard's Conan stories are set in. Pirates, cossacks, huge snakes, forgotten cities, man-eating apes, naked chicks everywhere, fanatical screaming desert hordes, weird magic, vampires, scheming priests and cocky mercenaries, plus al...

Re: 4E: Crits.
1199645404[/unixtime]]I don't want a damn bell curve, no one does. Bell curves suck when hitting monsters for damage. [br][br]When roges got sneak attack dice that did bell curve damage in 3E, no one got upset. It's seriously not a big deal. Anytime you roll lots of dice at once and add up all the ...

Re: 4E: Crits.
If monsters have damaged dice like 3d6, while player characters have damaged dice like 1d10 (like in the given example posted), then maximizing all the dice rolls gives the monsters the statistical advantage, doesn't it?

Re: New Edition: Iconic Characters
1198444598[/unixtime]]The important thing is that you would want to read or tell a story about this character when they are running around in the shadows of their village while it is being assaulted by stampeding moose and when they standing on their personal cloud threatening a hundred handed demo...

Re: Italy in the Middle Ages
Thanks for the replies and the map![br][br] 1196781247[/unixtime]]You might want to remove almost every class except Rogue, Expert and Aristocrat as PC classes. Commoner is an NPC class and anyone could take levels in warrior if they choose. [br]Sorry, I would never do this - that just sounds like n...

Re: 4e is now dead to me.
I don't like the selection of classes and races in 4E. The newcomers are not exciting at all. I didn't even know what an eldarin was.[br][br]Started with the Basic D&D boxed set, by the way. Both editions of AD&D were terrible. I'm glad that 3E realized it didn't have to be "Advanced.&q...

Re: Why Frank's Tomes Have Not Caught On (In Some Circles)
The colorful language in the Tomes just makes them more fun to read.[br][br]I don't personally use the classes in the Tomes because we keep things simple and only use the 3 main books. If the fighter is too weak, I prefer to just give him a more powerful sword instead of changing the whole class aro...

Italy in the Middle Ages
Hello! I have been reading for a while and enjoy many of the discussions here. Since some of you have experience with games inspired by historical settings, I would like advice on how to apply D&D rules to fantasy midieval Italy.[br][br]Any adventure ideas would be very much appreciated. I defin...
