Re: Your combat schtick should be separate from your non-com

That's not what Frank's talking about. Getting a free simple weapon proficiency, and 3 more class skills, doesn't let a fighter do anything out of combat. It still only has 2 skill points/level to use. Have you tried to play a diplomatic Strong or Tough hero, or a sneaky one? It sucks.

I'm starting this thread to discuss Polymorph as a fixed-form spell b/c the other thread has too many options to keep straight.[br][br]Here's a framework. [br][br]A. Polymorph applies the size change templates from the MM. Increasing in size applies the size increases, decreasing in size applies the...

I don't think that's true. You'd sure as hell know the difference between a Manticore w/ str 14 and str 25. That's interesting. You couldn't use straight caster caster level, which can be wildly broken. You could tie it to Druid level, and allow certain stacking w/ other classes. Well, OK. Eliminate Pounce. This isn't the Pounce Gripe Thread. [br][br]But the system still needs to divvy up abilities some rational way. I don't think you can eliminate abilities altogether. It depends on how you do it.[br][br]Here's an example. Currently, at 8th level a druid can wildshape into a dire lion. Re: Polymorph Fixes

Basically, you'd get a stat package that in the MM is called "Dire Tiger," but for wild shape would be, say, "11th level form." The flavor is whatever you want it to be, tiger, wolf, bear, dolphin. I see this as something like the monk's level advancement table. It seems easy eno...

Re: Polymorph Fixes

I'm coming around to the Frank view myself. Big concern, though, is that the spell description gets pretty long. THere's a basic rule of legislation drafting (which should apply here) that the longer the rule, the bigger the loopholes. Just something to keep in mind.

ACtually, scaling is the opposite of the current system. Re: Better way of doing ECL without massive CR/Monster Revam

OK, so what happens here? A Drow wizard (LA +3) in this system is a first level PC that gets exp as a 3rd level PC. For a 3rd level PC it doesn't matter much, but at ECL 4 (once it gets to 2nd level), per the charts the drow already gets, what, say on average 2/3 what the other now-2nd level level P...

If it's not based on monster descriptions, it's just a stat-buffing spell, with some ancillary abilities thrown in. Changing shape is just fluff that goes along with stat changes. Re: Polymorph and Friends

I don't think that's true. The spells changed dramatically from 2E to 3.0. Expecting a change in 3.5 was too much, b/c the spells are too wonky to fix w/in the 3.0 system, and too important a concept to throw away. So, they left it alone in 3.5 (basically).[br][br]IMO, the real problem w/ the spells...
