Having not played GW2... yeah, it is pretty similiar to GW1 in how you build decks. Pick 7 active, 7 passive abilities from between any two of the nine weapons. It doesn't have GW's annoying skill sliders, though, and PVP is pretty shitty from what I've seen. The mechanics are very WoW, yes. If you ...

The Secret World
Anybody else playing this? What it is: MMO set in an urban fantasy setting. It's a buy-once, buy-"expansion patches" (currently $20-$30 base game, $15 or so patches worth) game, with some really neat things. There are no classes - instead you build a "deck" out of abilities from ...

I think it's very telling that one of the most common criticisms I've seen of Tropes vs Women, stemming from a disgusting youtube video is refuse to link, is litera...

Let's look at three random monsters, one of each type: Vermin, Regular, and Giant. As a quick note, the DM has an endless pile of tokens. When he has to spend a token, he puts it in a pile in the middle of the table - when that pile contains a number of tokens equal to the number of players, every p...

Alright, I'm going to give some quick examples of powers - and later on monsters - to give a better idea of what the system is like. First, some of the armory cards... Flamethrower: (Disruptor +1, Leader +1) Attack an enemy with collateral on 1, 2, or 3. Choose an enemy in your sector. You deal 1 da...

Random character creation and CCGs in my RPG is going to sink this game and not the cover. For what it's worth, in case I was unclear: There is no CCG element. All the powers are totally listed out in the book, and there are images that come with the PDF. As far as I'm aware, there are no plans on ...

Last Stand - Review
Disclaimer: I had first heard about Last Stand due to the "controversy" surrounding the cover. There's a black woman as the only character on the cover - which is a controversy in the RPG industry, apparently, with multiple people involved in telling the author of the book that he had to c...

I ended up buying Last Stand, base solely on the author being a brave, cool person who did some neat stuff I want to encourage. It seems honestly interesting. Lots of unique systems. Very 'gamey', which I like. No skill system or anything, but it really doesn't need one I don't think. I may try to r...

The "Does anyone know about..." thread
This is the thread to ask if anyone has played a particular game / own a particular supplement and can give a quick review.
Has anyone read over Dungeon World, or Last Stand?

The review made this system seem worthless. dkfather's defense of the system let me KNOW it was worthless. I wonder if all these idiot defenders of bad systems realize that all they're doing is convincing people not to play the shitty, shitty games they love so much? We had this same problem with ec...

The cite is how you began immediately blaming the game masters and players for a flaw in the rules. The flaw that you can just try to climb a wall over and over to level up, the flaw the the rules are not going to keep characters at even advancement because it's totally random, etc. What PURPOSE doe...

Any WoW players here? I'm thinking of picking the game back up in the semi-near future (buying a car first, then a new laptop). Also, I want to be a panda. Anyway, I'm thinking of being a hunter because every server needs more huntards, amirite? However, I'm looking at the wikis, and I can't make a...

Modifying Feng Shui for campaigns
So I am once again bringing back my project to modify Feng Shui for a space opera RPG - with one of the biggest changes being a focus on actually using it for a campaign, rather than just a few sessions which it is best at. As such, I need some advice. Does anyone have any good guidelines on writing...

There is absolutely no reason that drawing an accurate map on a piece of grid paper should be faster than drawing an accurate map in Maptools, say. Not quite sure I agree here. I can draw faster in person than with a mouse. I can see more of the map at once in person on a scale in which I'm drawing...

It's pretty clear that the people who go on and on about dynamic lightning and awesome maps and 3d models and all that shit are people who are on the outside of games looking in, and have no experience with this kind of stuff. Here's what they're missing. -Raising the system requirements on your RPG...

Previous thread on the subject: http://www.tgdmb.com/viewtopic.php?p=211398
I think it's important to differentiate between making a game for the stuff we have (essentially, IRC + dice bots and little else) vs the stuff we want (good maping software and stuff like that).
