This entire thread is squirrelloid's personal Did Not Do The Research. Hey Ancient. No need to threadcrap. If you don't like it, leave it be. Squirrelloid: If you could get some rules to go with lords and peasants crafting useful materials to deal with annoying stuff it'd be a godsend. Right now we...

Mearls is a worse designer. 4th edition lasted merely a few short years before being updated to Essentials which was then cancelled. Compare this to the life span of OD&D and 1st edition.

Gygax hates players more. Gygax restricted options and fun within the system a lot more than Mearls did.

DM Prep is important. The better the DM and the better the system, the less prep is required for a good game.

You aren't starting from a balanced game foundation to begin with. Banning this or banning that has only a marginal effect on gameplay. The overridin imbalance asserts itself every time. I'll be honest with you that as a player it's annoying to read through or ensure one DM's arbitrary ban list, so ...

I'm amazed at how horrible the D&D division did during the 3E and 4E Era electronically. They absolutely needed a 4E game. Part of the problem was that D&D Online was loosely based on 3E and wasn't going to change and that their digital initiatives lost most of their original promises and ju...

This topic is a legitimate and a good one. And one that affects many games. And, something a well designed and robust game and design team will address. Let me start with my own background and experience on the issue. No matter the game or the genre there will be casual players and harcore players. ...

You have to look at it from a bigger scale. If you have multiple DMs and multiple players it's very hard to arbitrarily say everyone must have equal xp. Not only that but you have to somehow keep track of who had the highest xp from the last game and then make sure everyone in future games starts at...

OD&D to 3E has always considered mixed parties and for good reason: There has to be a benefit for having more xp than other characters, but you don't want to force other people to not play. What would that good reason be? Why should some party members have more xp than the others? Why should yo...

OD&D to 3E has always considered mixed parties and for good reason: There has to be a benefit for having more xp than other characters, but you don't want to force other people to not play. A well designed game is more tolerant of mixed level parties not falling apart to the opposition or overwh...

This is also better than Obsidian portal. Much more customizeable

I agree with Praetor. If you want to have a good rubric for a multiclassing system, the power system needs to be the same regardless of what that power system happens to be.

Game Balance, D&D, and the Future

If we look at modern games such as Starcraft II , or Street Fighter we'll notice that a great deal of attention has been paid to balance. The developers show signs of actually understanding the intricacies of the games that they make. Contrarily, balance this against D&D. The game itself is brok...

Rules Light games are good for new players or casual players. If you are only going to be playing a ga...

There is no such restriction. In fact flavorwise, the Lancea Sanctum is justified in being downright immoral, greedy, and cruel because by being so while being a vampire serves as an abject lesson to humanity of the terror of God's wrath.

So yeah, the only thing stopping it is the Storyteller.

If you're a Fighter/ Magic-User / Cleric with 18 Con, you can come out one point ahead in HP. For example: Max fighter is 14 (+4 Con), Max Cleric is 10 (+2 Con) and max magic-user is 6 (+2) con, dividing by 3 leaves you with 5 HP from Fighter, 3 HP from Cleric and 2 HP from Magic-User. That is 10 HP...
