This entire thread is squirrelloid's personal Did Not Do The Research. Hey Ancient. No need to threadcrap. If you don't like it, leave it be. Squirrelloid: If you could get some rules to go with lords and peasants crafting useful materials to deal with annoying stuff it'd be a godsend. Right now we...

You aren't starting from a balanced game foundation to begin with. Banning this or banning that has only a marginal effect on gameplay. The overridin imbalance asserts itself every time. I'll be honest with you that as a player it's annoying to read through or ensure one DM's arbitrary ban list, so ...

This topic is a legitimate and a good one. And one that affects many games. And, something a well designed and robust game and design team will address. Let me start with my own background and experience on the issue. No matter the game or the genre there will be casual players and harcore players. ...

You have to look at it from a bigger scale. If you have multiple DMs and multiple players it's very hard to arbitrarily say everyone must have equal xp. Not only that but you have to somehow keep track of who had the highest xp from the last game and then make sure everyone in future games starts at...

Having recently played a campaign spanning level 1 to level 22. Rocket Launcher tag does grate on the feelings of the players and DMs in such a system. Initiative becomes the most important thing and a game becomes a series of interrupts and counter interrupts and so forth. Generally speaking people...

Game Balance, D&D, and the Future
If we look at modern games such as Starcraft II , or Street Fighter we'll notice that a great deal of attention has been paid to balance. The developers show signs of actually understanding the intricacies of the games that they make. Contrarily, balance this against D&D. The game itself is brok...

Rules Light games are good for new players or casual players. Dungeon, Dragonstrike, and the various Dungeons and Dragon boardgames that have been published over the years count as rules light and fit into this category. And that's the issue with rules light. If you are only going to be playing a ga...

If you're a Fighter/ Magic-User / Cleric with 18 Con, you can come out one point ahead in HP. For example: Max fighter is 14 (+4 Con), Max Cleric is 10 (+2 Con) and max magic-user is 6 (+2) con, dividing by 3 leaves you with 5 HP from Fighter, 3 HP from Cleric and 2 HP from Magic-User. That is 10 HP...

Well let's take a look at the HP diffrences with three scenarios. 1 Scenario no bonus hp, partial bonus hp and full bonus hp. This also depends on how the DM does HP, if he decides round up or round down. If the DM chooses round up we get the following tables: Fighter HP Fighter Die Roll HPs Granted...

Keep in mind a couple of things. 1. In a one shot game, it won't matter. No one is going to level or level meaningfully to matter. In this case it's strictly better to be multiclassed 2. Single classed folks will level quicker. However, multiclass folks will quickly catch up despite split xp. As a c...

I'm surprised at some of the bad and or incomplete advice offered in this forum. Take a look at my list I made in Frank's style for 1st edition. Spells that Kill People . In short, spells in 1st edition are very powerful. There are several which outright incapacitate an enemy with no save or are a s...

Just as a note to the OP. For powerful stuff, you need to take a page from Frank and concentrate on powers that just kill people. Below is a power that just kills people: Transubstantiation from Vampire the Requiem (Level-Five Theban Sorcery Ritual) The character transforms one substance or object i...
