You better share that shit. Or what, you'll come beat me up? :P First part, because it's 4 fucking AM now. This is the Failed Design Series, where Frank Trollman shares his thoughts on role-playing games and their failures in design. As part of this series on failed design we are going to talk abou...

Thinking about re-writing this to be a little more clear and include the discussions after the OP and then sharing. Nifty piece.

On MUSHes they call it "Soulplaying".

Yes. They do.

I recently got told "Oh, you play WOD, well we don't have stats we have a deeper connection to our characters."

A deeper connection.

I've done some thinking about the topic and decided that if I were going to have Gods in my game they would be very basic. Kinda like Metropolis' God. FEED FEED FEED. Or maybe the Cthulhu type gods, where they really just don't give a fuck about you. Even the "good guys". Religion in a gam...

Band of heroes yes. I don't really want to emulate Wargames like D&D so much as simply refocus Fate.

[FATE3] Putting Fantasy into FATE

FATE is a lot about simplification, generalization, and making tropes the rule. For instance in Story of the Century you can play a Private Investigator of the 1940's to the nines. I want what SotC does to the Pulp Action in my Fantasy! Looking over the PDF there aren't many things you'd have to cha...

"he point is that in Ebberron Gods cannot grant spells"

So the clerics don't need gods? They are immaterial to the Cleric ability?

Then why have gods? :P

Yeah, and it blew for a lot of reasons. One being that Forgotten Realms was a lot more like As the World Turns for gods.

"I like gods because they're another level of extraplanar beings who want to fight each other which can lead to adventures and intrigues for the main characters."

Maybe I'm pessimistic but I see that as adding another level of complication.

For me it just interferes with the setting, also it's way to fucking common. Like, I can name one source that didn't have gods in that category. The Hobbit. But then (a) god had to get all into it and be like, I SEEING YOU BIATCH. (Sauron). It just ticks me off, maybe because I like down to earth ad...
