The 2 big things that struck me about the IK setting were first that the more awesome aspects of magic were dialed down and second that all the factions seemed to be painfully stupid in one or more areas. I didn't go into too much mechanical depth in the magical steam-powered technology department, ...

Sorry for the delay in my response but it looks like we've got things more or less understood, even if some of us might disagree on one or more points. All I can really see as needing addressing are the cases of harming animals in order to eat them or as part of combating other sentient beings. I ca...

Recently, I've been reading game manuals (Diablo, Total Annihilation: Kingdoms), and I just finished Free Radical ( http://www.shamusyoung.com/shocked/index.html ). I only knew a little about the game prior to reading it. I am now starting on a few Shadowrun novels.

I finally got it! Turns out I need to get a minimum of 200 kills and a 3-1 kill ratio. I picked on the dark eldar (weak to retinue rushes), then parked snipers outside their base after taking all but two of the strategic points. 5 hours of waiting later, I finished them off and got Stubbs the last o...

Did you notice how Vance Motherfucking Stubbs managed to lose 100 Baneblades? Also, play through as Chaos ("Rhinos? Our enemies hide in METAL BOXES! The cowards, the... fools! We should... take away their metal boxes.") and the Spess Mehreens. There will be guaranteed laughs with the dial...

I got my father a copy of Dawn of War: Soulstorm for Christmas. I and a friend spent most of a day laughing as we played the campaign mode as Imperial Guard. Apparently, Blood Raven Space Marines are easily outclassed by Guardsmen with a 3 to 2 numerical advantage. With commissars there to shoot som...

It makes me laugh. The game is a nice piece of freeware as well (especially since it reminded me of a thread here).

Now that we've ruled out the worst alternatives: do you actually think fast casting low-level spells continuously's much better than what the other 2 characters do? Namely, unparalleled flexibility and huge barrages of damage dice. I'm not sure. At level 5, you get to throw down nearly free (in ter...

Aldragon: a random recharge's fvcking craptastical. Even once every 2 rounds would be better in practice than 2:3 or 1d4-1 (first for being easy to misremember, second due to being unreliable). Yeah, I'd prefer to avoid the extra dice-rolling and bookkeeping as well. I don't even like the recharge ...

Let's see... I could do that with 1d4-1 rounds. That would allow occasional moments of casting 4 spells in half as many turns, but more often than not there'd be a significant enough delay that you'd have to rely upon other abilities.

It doesn't have a familiar. Aldragon, find something extra for the fighter. Hmm. Channeling spells through attacks might work. I need something that doesn't require much extra coding. Alright, how about the ability to quicken a spell of max spell level = class level / 4 rounding up... once every 2 ...

Actually... This gives me an idea for a relatively easily PCGen-compatible class balance fix for a game I'm running. How do the following balance out with 40 point buy and saner hiding/sniping rules? - Specialist Wizard with 1 extra spell of each level and no banned school - Gestalt Fighter/Sorcerer...

Iron Kingdoms?

http://www.privateerpress.com/ironkingdoms/ Someone gave me one of the sourcebooks a few years ago, and I was intrigued by a number of changes that had been made to the default setting assumptions. I don't really find myself drawn to playing games in the IK setting, but I'm curious as to whether thi...

The guilt/morality of dealing with centaurs versus horses seemed to be getting a bit off topic, so I made a separate thread.

TNE and centaurs: A moral tangent

Since the OP of http://tgdmb.com/viewtopic.php?t=49205 asked for posters to avoid pursuing tangents, I'm starting this thread to avoid side-tracking things there any more than I already have. Here are the relevant posts from http://tgdmb.com/viewtopic.php?t=49205 in the order they were made (I might...

What is tauroid supposed to mean? My web searches seem to indicate "cow people." "Tauric" references creatures who's bodies are half-and-half combinations of creatures. Examples include centaurs, minotaurs, and (in D&D) driders. I'm not sure whether "tauroid" is di...

Well, if the mosquito has bitten a human, it has caused society some trouble. I might even extend that to mosquitos that threaten to bite humans, forcing the humans to take action to ward them off.

I'd value the lives of mosquitos that bit or troubled humans less with my current outlook.

Hmm. Perhaps I should rethink my position then.

Either that, or I might be defining guilt the wrong way.

Are you saying that whether or not something is sentient is more important in terms of the value of its life than the actions and choices it has taken?

 So you feel less guilty about cannibalism than eating horse. (if I didn't completely miss your point) As someone struggling to find a way to disagree with that , I have to say that's the best arguement for using centaurs I've seen. Pretty much, yeah. If the horse is dependent on civilization...

None of this really seems to indicate that centaurs as a race add an element that a bunch of guys riding on horseback doesn't do just as well. I'm not a centaur lover...Greek myth monsters in general are too mutant for my tastes. But what do they add that would benefit the story(stories)? Is there ...
