Damn it, so many of these books aren't at my library. For example it doesn't have much Bujold, with a total of 0 copies of The Curse of Chalion across the whole county and about 50 libraries, and several others with only one copy. It also doesn't have Grunts by Mary Gentle which I'd heard good thing...

Roy, you're being quite combative. Just because an author Crissa likes (guessing this to be the case based on centauress posting the links) writes on a blog about 4e doesn't mean you should make a thread about it. Yes, she is responding to a thread on this forum, but, well, either Crissa should make...

The other problem of narrative causality is with successes. If things happen to make the story better, then if the PCs do too well then the story isn't tense and exciting so the DM adds bullshit complications. E.g. BBEG goes down in one hit so the DM adds another monster or adds in a bullshit reason...

There's actually a pretty good chance of you saving people if you have aliens spawn right on top of you. That's what the turn order I had set up is for: Maximizing the chances of saving someone when the dice gods of spawning give you a "screw you" situation. Yeah? I know confirmation bias...

I just suddenly got the hang of it and now most of the time I can get everyone out of the Reactor. Barring aliens spawning directly on top of me. Operations is slightly harder and I often have trouble pulling back after I get the door open. But it is awesome for when you get close to the end of the ...

That Aliens game is awesome. Thanks for the link. I can't stop myself playing it, even though its almost impossible. How the hell are you supposed to do the third level, even with loads of marines? I don't like Fuchs' idea much. A lot of campaigns have varying monsters- undead one time, animals the next, then giants, then the gates of hell, etc. If all your equipment helped against the previous enemies then it doesn't actually help your current situation, and so is useless except for the basic...

(Almost posted this in another thread) So I tried Roy's suggestion for armour prices. Is that extra round enough to make the chance of doing enough ...

Druid sounds pretty good. After all, one can simply ignore the wild shape. Druids are oft considered extremely powerful, so a druid isn't that much weaker than other party members if you have an okay companion and have some idea which spells to avoid. If you do start to get worried, add a spell or t...

For some reason, while I am interested in Exalted, I'd like to get back to Role Protection. 4e has explicit role protection within combat, but does it have any implicit role protection outside of combat? Sort of like, one person is good at traps, one is good at scouting, another conversation, anothe...

I personally prefer up front asking ("Hey, DM, I want that thing here (shows book). Can you make that available?") to trying to buy something, and having the DM throw some hurdles up ("Trader hasn't it in stock... NPC wizard can't build it... NPC Archwizard was creating it, but then ...

So, I get that you think levels 1-5 are just about fine, and that at level 20 you should be expecting attack bonuses of about +70. Are you saying that ignoring touch AC, the armoured character's AC should vary from about 16 at first up to 100 at 20th? Or maybe about 80 to stop power attacking but st...

Wait, is RC using Frank's hyperbole as his normal playstyle? Ripping up the floorboards and selling them for firewood is stupid, if only because you won't have anywhere comfortable to stand while doing so. And you end up with a lot of boards with nails sticking out which is just asking for tetanus. ...

If I meant to say that, I would have phrased it this way: "The more XP your character has, the more powerful it is." Which is provably untrue. I instead phrased it this way: "all characters who have earned [x] GP are supposed to have roughly the same power level" True, you did a...

Right; XP determines level. Now here’s the same thing, restated: Are you aware that GP is a measure of how powerful a character is? That all characters who have earned [x] GP are supposed to have roughly the same power level? If character 'A' has twice as much GP as character 'B', then character 'A...
