But it is literally twenty times as dynamic as a Psion casting Psychic Crush six times. I maintain: so what? This is still going into the territory of "I don't like psionics." If you don't like characters spamming attacks, fine. That's great. It's also subjective. Does it make the game mo...

Daily powers require such an effort that your strength can only be mustered once before you rest. you mean mustered four times, right? you have four dailies, at least after a certain point), and for some reason you are too tired to use the power X but not to use power Y, how bizzare. Encounter powe...

you really think that leaving behind whatever you are doing and come back after a couple of days would not have negative conseguences on whatever you are trying to do? Not unless you would already face negative consequences for the use of rope trick - which is the case we are discussing here. no, t...

I like 2nd ed way to limit nova'ing, higher level spells need more time to recover, if you cast a ninth level spell you cannot sure you will have the chance to get it back the next day, so you think twice before to cast it. Great, so you go from "I cast rope trick and come back tomorrow" ...

And the don't work in 3e, Frank never liked them, and heck, they don't work in Earthdawn, either. -Crissa I don't understand this ki...

Allow me to demonstrate how this works. Suppose, for instance, that you have the power energy ray . Now, there are two methods by which you can approach the use of this power. The first is the retarded "nova" method: the psion spams 20d6+20 rays everywhere and is drained of PP after a few...

Personally the reason I was not crazy bout psionic is that seemed like they went out of their way to make it magic with the serial number filed off, everything you could do with magic you could do with psionic and almost equally well. And vice versa. In 2nd edition, if memory serve me well (but it i...

My take on it: first, Law should be called 'order', it would generate a lot less confusion IMHO, alignment is not about laws per se, every time more that a dozen sentient being got together you get to have laws in a form of the other even if just things like 'obey me or I chomp your head off'. Where...

Wouldn't this just allow tiny people who are ungodly casters? They get a nice bonus to their AC and Hide and give up...what exactly? The ability to fight hand-to-hand that they'd probably never use anyway? A tiny person's sword is tiny, and does tiny damage. A tiny person's Hold Person holds big pe...

RC2 does bring up a point, though. You can't really roleplay an entire swarm though. You'd be roleplaying a single rodent or fairy or oversized ant in it and then you would have scaling problems. However, would this be a problem or a challenge? I think having a tiny character at low levels would be...

The Vikings were an agrarian society. Their excess landless men 'went Viking' so they could buy their own part of their home and settle down. Or die. Both good ends in their culture. -Crissa That could work for the orcs, the orcs that adventurer see around in dungeon or raiding villages are the one...

Re: I really like the 4E DMG/MM artwork.

Warlords only have one power in the PHB that uses a thrown weapon. Jesus! Warlords have a power named "Jesus!" that throws a weapon at someone? That has to be the most exciting sounding 4E power I've heard of. edit: no wait, I might have read it wrong. It's an unknown power that uses Jesu...

I thought the understanding for why monsters have not taken over human civilization was that humans have many wandering murderous hobos who do nothing but wander around looking to stab monsters in the face. Seriously? You just told me not to use the monster's abilities against the PCs. That's...that's sad. Instead, be saddened by your own idea that the DM -> Player relationship is adversarial and that the DM should give the Deathlord a powerful ranged weapon and allow it to fly around in an open field...

The most interesting thing here is that 4e seems to be boring even when you break it. in 3.x the game breaking combos usually are fun or at least interesting in some way(pun-pun, for example, the concept fo a kobld overgod is kinda amusing). in 4e breakng the game is mostly spamming attacks again, a...

The problem is that the "obviusly broken way" is the way the game is written, and isn't 4e edition to be targeted expecially to new, i.e inexperienced", players/GMs.

Re: [Not 4e] What will we see from 5e?

This is typical 4e apologetics, and it makes me want to vomit. The system lacking any type of internal consistency is not a feature. It is a critical flaw. I don't see how it's a flaw at all. It's part of narrative control - I roll high on my dice, I score a hit with my melee attack that deals dama...

Re: [4e] Why even bother with scaling attack/defense?

But if everything's always supposed to have level-appropriate attacks/defenses, whether they're stronger or weaker than you, why bother with scaling attack and defense at all? Just to make it even more clear that you're not supposed to fight things that are higher level than you just as surely as y...

I'm not sure, because 4e don't interest me enugh to try it but I suspect that removing the "+1/2 level to everything" could make the game more interesting. On one hand the higher level character would still be more powerful because they would have higher stats, better weapons, more hps, et...

4e quirks; what about the fact that you can grab and 'imobilize' a swarm with your bare hands (or even with just one hand)? is it quirky enough :) ?

Every time I try to picture how that could happen my brain implode.

Truth is, this happen with a lot of things of 4e for me

the only function of CRs is to (how their name says) Rate the Challenges the GM decide to send against the players (how well they do that is another discussion) , if a GM decide to use the CR to send only easy fights to his players, well, that is his own business and -unless you play in his campaign...
