Low-level survivability can (and should) be improved by giving creatures a size-based penalty/bonus to hit points. Especially hardcore shorties like halflings can get bonus hit points. 1) It goes against your original idea of reducing hit point inflation 2) If Halflings have bonus HP, then Ogres ha...

I know the Tome series has a lot of different mechanics for adding dice to melee damage rolls, like Rage dice, the Your Enemy is Me mechanic of knights, and Death Attack. They all merely add d6 to damage. Which is ok, but, come on - if all your characters roll 1dX + yd6, then what's the point of ha...

Well, yeah. That's not why industrial hemp is awesome, though. For the record, I don't use pot, despite what the crazed rantings of Zine claim (though I wish I could). I don't use pot anymore either. But I'm fully aware that, if it was legal worldwide, this whole thread wouldn't last this long. Hen...

I was not contesting that 4e combats can be boring and unmemorable; they can certainly end up that way very easily. I was just raising the point that long combat is by no means unique to 4e in response to : And seriously, does the fact that some other completely unrelated systems have a same fault ...

Damage rolls in d20 suck.
More specifically, melee damage rolls suck. Dice rolls need to be interesting and engaging - they have to matter. It should make a huge difference if you roll a 1 or a 10 on 1d10. Otherwise they become an unnecessary chore. If you have to roll 1d10 + 30, who cares about what number will come up on t...

My simple criteria for purchasing written modules: 1) How interesting does it seem? Any nice moments in it? 2) How long is it? 3) If it is long, are there opportunities to add some sidequests to freshen things up a bit? 4) Finally, what is the price and, taken all previous factors into account, is i...

I've yet to see anything handle open-ended storytelling better than an RPG. Meh. You can find a couple of unique selling points for everything. But simply having a unique selling point isn't enough. It has to be needed by a large enough niche for the product to be profitable. Like, you have a niche...

RPGs simply haven't gone with the times. Never having been a serious enough market, it hasn't received the attention of the industry that would develop it further to meet today´s needs. The thing is, everything RPGs try to do, more specialized products to better. Way better. So better that, indeed, ...

That's an entirely separate issue; why does God not follow innovations in governing? I mean, burecracy is so 19th century. Is Jesus really going to turn down quallified people just because they weren´t drafted beforehand? Why doesn't he modernize a bit, and remove needless procedures? I am certain i...

I wonder why not wait for Jesus to come down to earth again, and bring his kingdom and whatnot, a little more, y'know, comfortable? Like, if I had a choice between him coming to find me working 12 hours for minimum wage, with little or no health or pension protection, and him coming to find me with ...
