At what point can people stop focusing on damage and, confident in their ability to be useful party members, build up other things?

Or is the answer "it depends" because there are more monsters than bonuses and just because I can hurt one guy doesn't mean I can hurt another?

I would honestly suggest using Frank's Ends of the Matrix system. And SR4. Because I don't think quick patches exist for a subsystem as flawed as this one; you'd trigger so much emergent gameplay with houserule patches that you'd probably end up writing your own game sooner or later, and Frank's alr...

Skill balkanization, for one. Is there any reason why all the gun skills have to stand alone while all the spellcasting skills are the same? Oh wait, now they're splitting up normal spellcasting and ritual spellcasting too. How about the devaluation of BOD because armor and damage values going up, b...

The wireless bonuses are also silly (wireless bonus for a fancy coat is to raise social pools, lolwut). Frank touched on this, but it's basically an incredibly hamhanded way to force people to use said bonuses as opposed to just declaring that everyone is online all the time.

They don't "compete" with cyberware. Cyberware is bought piece by piece, and getting a muscle enhancer you couldn't fit in at chargen is just 20k nuyen for you. The top chargen deck costs 400k. The next one is something like 600k. You are absolutely not getting a new deck in the game, unl...

It's like they realized that Script Kiddy was a thing, and their response was to artificially enforce the Decker niche by making decks insanely expensive, to the point where they competed with cyberware for intensive resource investment except that decks are much more easily lost or stolen and the m...

5th ed hacking is still pretty fucked, IIRC. The pointless bullshit "roll to see which guy is aiming a gun at you" is still there. And your gear is still more important than your stats.

Dermal plating goes up to R6 in SR5. The suprathyroid gland increases all physical attributes by +1. I forgot to factor that in too, so the minimum Essence cost for that spread is 5.2. I also forgot about troll innate +1 armor, but honestly speaking, that's hardly worth remembering. The milspec armo...

Also, frag grenades in SR5 are 18P, so shooting at their feet should reflect 36P back at them, assuming there's no flashback from other nearby surfaces. That should oneshot anything less than a BOD 10+1 troll with bone lacing, dermal plating, suprathyroid gland, and heavy milspec armor. BOD 11 (effe...

So I know there is a runner called Bull in Shadowrun, and a mod/dev/poster/etc. called Bull in the SR forums, and apparently the latter is a jerk, or something.

Any link here?

The gladius wasn't even an inferior weapon for its sweet spot, which was short range stabbing. And the Romans could force their opponents to fight in the gladius' sweet spot.

lolwut $5000 to own an online tavern. And apparently it's $35 a month subscription. And they've had to beg people not to kill nubs. Players, it's time to publish an official policy on this topic. It is not ok to engage in PvP in NPC Settlements. That means Kindleburn, Marchmont, Ossian's Crossing, ...

In SR4, the direct spells were the best of the combat spells; they ignored armor and generally had lower drain too, and you didn't really care about elemental effects when you had the ability to bypass normal soak and roll your Magic + Casting + Focus vs their naked Willpower. Stunbolt and ball were...

Yeah, they nerfed the fuck out of direct combat spells but hardly touched the real gamewinners like the mind-related stuff, trid phantasm, etc.

Wasn't AS basically Frank's idealized SR system in his take on an nWoDesque setting? I think Frank mashed a lot of skills down and outright eliminated the extraneous ones (seriously, do I need two different skills for Con and Impersonation?). Among other things...

Wow, that's a big fucking nerf. Why even bother with counterspelling? Also, I saw a bunch of characters in the Street Grimoire book, for some retarded reason there are people with skill groups at 14, despite 12 being listed as the most world class top notch 0.00001% of the exponents. And these are s...

I think the point is to emphasize shades of gray morality and the fact that monolithic evil doesn't need to exist when people can be petty bastards of their own accord.

Yeah, I'll pass on Intimidate, then. ANy other skills you'd recommend? Is enchanting any good? Gymnastics seems useless with Levitate, and I don't see why I should plow points into Disguise (even though he's styled as an overdramatic cosplaying nerd) when PMask and Fashion exist.

I think they make characters which are super weak compared to what a starting metahuman PC can summon/whistle up. I also have a flavor question: I have Intimidate maxed out on a 5e mage, but I also have Con from a skill group. Should I get another skill instead? I already have guns/melee/mundane and...
