Skill based spellcasting
Murtak's spell system variant reminded me of a system I was tinkering with some time ago, so I went and dug it back. [br][br]It's still a rough draft, but it sould be enough to understand what I'm striving at; so here it is for anyone to dissect:[br][br] spellcasting is spontaneous for all classes, ...

Re: Tentative first draft
I was reading the Morphing weapon ability, which lets you change your weapon to anything vaguely in the same "size" category, and the example specifies you can change a longsword into a composite longbow. Then something occurred to me: Morphing clearly alters the very matter of the weapon....

Re: It Ends In Darkness - Character Concepts
Note, the 3.5 Whip is a melee weapon, but has the special rule that it doesn't threten squares, which means that it can't ever flank. Of course, that's retarded. I honestly don't see what the big deal is with people taking a weapon that threatens a lof enemies. It's virtually useless for anything e...

Re: It Ends In Darkness - Character Concepts
For reference, a Brown Bear conjured by Mia averages 75 hp, AC 22 with fast healing 3 and DR 10/magic and slashing. It grapples at +28 and has a full attack of 2 claws at +20/1d8+13 and 1 bite at +15/2d6+6. That's not in the league of a real PC fighter, [br][br]That's far beyond what the poor fight...

Re: It Ends In Darkness - Character Concepts
It occurs to me that hitting stuff is lots of fun, but Kirin will hit stuff [br][br]I sure will (at least, I sure hope so), but it works better if I actually get someone to pair up with for flanking purposes (3.5 whip is a melee weapon, after all, and I get to deal an extra 1d6 of damage while flan...

She will be able to cast Chained GMW on every goddamn weapon, missile & melee, that the party owns. More than once per day, assuming Frank gets generous with enemy Dispel Magic (which I assume he will) :) . [br][br]That's great, but until you hit level 13 you can use that only via Divine Metama...

Re: It Ends In Darkness - Character Concepts
I think I've made up my mind: my character's name will be Tecpatl Coatl.
Has anyone else already chosen his character's name?
BTW, Frank, can you give me your impression on my character's build (a couple of posts above)? How do you feel about those tweaks?

Coming to think of it, my character could impart the Kensai bonuses to each arrow he uses. If that's right, then I can cover ranged combat in a half-decent way, too.

Not much of a power-up, but still worth considering. [br][br]You odn't have to short-sell it to me. It's a total power-up. [br][br]Compared to the PHB fighter? No shadow of a doubt. Re: It Ends In Darkness - Character Concepts
I don't have DM 310, that was the one in which they made a bunch of variant Fighters that were all better than regular Fighters, right? I approve. Basic Fighter is asstastic, so a powerup, and more importantly a utility up, is a virtual requirement. [br][br]Yes, it's the issue in which they present...

In case I turn out to be a player, I was tinkering with a simple 10th level Kensai build: Kensai Fighter 5 / Exotic Weapon Master 1 / Kensai 4. Re: Nomenclature
One nomenclature has the drawback of having advanced things serving as prereqs for basic things. [br][br]That's hardly a drawback. Option 1 is the way to go, expecially if you plan to add other "layers" further on. In such a case, in fact, option 2 would force you to come up with more and...

I agree.
It could also be of help knowing what exactly Frank expects his co-DM to do.
